TGS Parent Survey - 2009 - The Evaluation Committee has worked to create a parent survey that is much shorter and easier to use than those in the past. This survey offers us an opportunity to help guide TGS toward a continually improving education for our children. The annual survey provides the teachers, administration and the board of trustees of our school with important information. To thank you for taking the time to complete the survey, your name will be placed in a drawing to win one of two baskets filled with wonderful homemade goodies prepared by the Survey Committee.
When filling out the survey, please check only one box for each question. If you feel a question does not apply or you don't know, please write "N/A" or "DK" at the far right. If you check disagree or strongly disagree, please provide an explanation in the space provided at the bottom of the section. Please fill out a curriculum survey for each child enrolled at TGS. Giving us your name is optional but strongly encouraged. The survey committee pledges confidentiality with only Steve Lorenz as Head of School and JoNell Hamilton as chair of the committee able to view names. Without a name on the survey it is much harder for Steve to address any concerns you may have. Also very important is the fact that without your name we cannot place you in the drawing for a basket of delicious baked goods.
Please complete the survey by May 24th. You have three options for completing this survey. You may click on the link below or copy it into your browser to access the survey. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=UOJqft44v2qRH9C_2bFyRHPQ_3d_3d Surveymonkey will take you through the survey. Depending on how much you have to say the survey will take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. When you are finished click done to submit your survey. Click here for the link to the Parent Survey on the TGS Underground.
Second, you may fill out the electronic version sent by e-mail and return as an attachment to bjh@dartmouth.edu.
Third, you may fill out a paper survey by asking Tammy White for one. Please note that paper surveys will not be automatically mailed out. You must contact the office and ask Tammy to mail it to you. Please return your completed paper survey to the office in a sealed envelope and clearly marked "Survey".
Remember, your survey must be returned by May 24th with your name on it to qualify for the drawing for an exceptionally tasty basket of baked goods and other foods.
Many thanks,
Survey Committee Kathy Gulick, JoNell Hamilton, Mary Heller Osgood, Ray Hutchins, Steve Lorenz, Eve McDermott, Tara Meinhard
All School Meeting today featured a performance by the Putney School Orchestra, directed by James Wallace, featuring TGS 8th grader, Ethan Roos, on bassoon. They played one movement of the Vivaldi bassoon concerto with Ethan and a very cool piece for orchestra and Chinese bamboo flute. Zhuomin Shen, the bamboo flutist, was at TGS with a group of ESOL students from Putney and worked with some younger students -- what a treat for all to hear his concerto, and to hear Ethan play on his home turf.
The 7th and 8th grade cast of South Pacific donated $668 to Putney Family Services, the proceeds of their Thursday night performance. A check was given to Mike Mrowicki today at all school meeting.
'Til the Cows Come Home, Friday, MAY 29th: - Doors open at Alyson's Orchard in Walpole for our annual spring auction. We could still use some items for the auction, so if you haven't donated anything yet, please do so by the end of the week. Teachers: how about donating tutoring time (for students or their challenged parents), a guided bike tour, a music lesson? Really anything you can come up with that you think folks would value would be appreciated. How about the class projects/books that students worked on this year with William, Donald Saaf, Julie Zanes and/or other artists? Here is a partial list of what we have so far: a fondue party, American Idol memorabilia, a plane ride within 150 miles of Putney, a week stay in Hawaii, lots of original art, a puppet show for a birthday party, music for hire, hand-made jewelry from parents and students, pottery, pine tables, wine, NEYT tix, firewood, a wine cooler, a bike fit, gift certificates to local restaurants & businesses, Okemo tix and so much more! Really, there is a wide array, but it could use supplementation. Mostly, we need you to come and have fun, so please join us! Thanks, Mark and Kathleen

NOTES FROM THE LIBRARY! - Several years ago we began including a summer reading list for and suggested by adults, and each year it has grown more popular. If you have any suggestions for our adult summer reading list, please send them to me. Summer's a great time to read for pleasure or to learn something new so all genres are welcome. Thank you, Ponnie
The Grammar School was awarded a Picturing America grant - by the National Endowment for the Humanities in cooperation with the American Library Association.
Through this grant we received twenty 2'x3' double-sided laminated reproductions of some of America's most outstanding art. The images include paintings, sculpture, photography, architecture, decorative arts, and architecture. These particular images were chosen as a sampler of American art that has a narrative quality accessible by all our students.
To date the reproductions have been used in art and social studies classes. So please, take a moment to view the circulating selection of the reproductions hanging in the lower and upper school buildings.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at pderby@tgs-putney. Thank you, Ponnie
