SAVE THE DATE!  THE ANNUAL TGS YARD SALE!  Saturday, May 23 (raindate Sunday).  It's the way to restore order in your home, recycle AND raise money for TGS...and maybe even find a perfect item to buy.  As you embark on spring cleaning, SAVE your piles of stuff.  We'll even provide a place for you to store it NOW, if you need to get it out of the house.  Benefits 5-8th grade trip budgets.  Contact Evie Lovett 387-5854/eviejeff@sover.net with questions or if you want to help.

READING CHALLENGE! - Only three days remain of the Reading Challenge.  The last day to record your reading time is this Friday, and contracts are due to the library or your teacher next Monday, April 6th. I hope that everyone has enjoyed this special emphasis on reading and that you've made it a family affair.
Before returning your contracts, please check the contracts to be certain that they have been filled out accurately and completely.  All participants must have met their contracted goal each day.  And, only two make-up days were allowed. Preventable errors on the contracts occur that can disqualify a reader, so please double check.
Adult participants, include the favorite book you read.  These titles will be included on our popular adult summer reading list.  If you don't want your name mentioned on that list, just let me know.
Thanks for the support you have given your children.  While the children do the reading, the contract often becomes the responsibility of the parent.  And remember, all contracts must be turned in next Monday, April 6th.  Ponnie

POETRY MONTH - Shel Silverstein, Maya Angelou, Jack Prelutsky, Emily Dickinson, Dr. Seuss, Robert Frost... What do they, your children, and so many more have in common?  Poetry! And, April is National Poetry Month.  Every year we have a special poetry celebration in April. This year we plan to spread the celebration across the entire month, and we would love you to participate!  Do you have a favorite poem or a poem you've written that you would like to read to the community during an April all school meeting?  We're asking parents, students, faculty and staff to join in the fun. All school meetings are held on Wednesdays 12:50-1:25, and we're looking for participants for Wednesday, April 8th and Wednesday, April 29th.  As someone who has done this twice, I can tell you it's lots of fun.  So, contact me to sign up.  Ponnie

GREEN NOTES: FROM CONVERSATION TO COMMITMENT -
Over the winter months, members of the Green Committee (Mary Chamberlin, Chris Harlow, Mark Long, Tara Meinhard and Natalie Thomson) have been discussing how to reduce energy consumption at TGS. And we are moving ahead with an energy audit through Integrated Solar Applications of Brattleboro. The goal of the audit is to identify the major sources of heat loss and calculating heat loads in the school buildings. Members of the Green Committee are at the same time applying for a Climate Change Grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.  If successful, the grant would help provide energy-efficient upgrades to our insulation, windows, and lights. We will keep the community informed about this ongoing work. We will also be in touch about the date for a possible caulking party!

LOOKING FOR A HOME - Ruby, our beloved white rabbit, needs a home where he can be truly adored.  He lives outdoors in a hutch, which we will provide, along with a heated water bottle and whatever hay we have left.  Contact Evie Lovett 387-5854 or eviejeff@sover.net.

SIGN UP FOR SPRING SPORTS AT TGS! -  Parent volunteers are needed for both Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  Mountain Biking for 4th-8th grades will be held on Thursday afternoons beginning April 16th (helmets required). While the woods trails are wet and muddy we'll stick to the dirt roads.  Game Day is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday afternoons.  So far several students have expressed interest in a game afternoon, but we still need a few more.  Please email Mary by Friday, April 3rd at mosgood@tgs-putney.org if you'd like to sign your child up for either activity.
