2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
We are looking for some help with on-deck coaching at the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals. If you are a coach planning on going to swim or coach your team or both, we need your help! On-deck coaches assist with warm-ups by giving starts to swimmers in sprint lanes, providing splits when requested and general help on the pool deck during warm-ups. It is a minimal time commitment and in return we can offer you a coach hospitality pass for the day you work, and this really cool t-shirt, as a token of our thanks! If you can help out on any of the days of the meet please contact Scott Bay or call him at 386.341.2899

Build Team Camaraderie
Want to build a little team camaraderie and teach your swimmers about pacing and clock awareness? Here is a set that could help you achieve these objectives. The idea for the main set comes from Coach Susie Powell of Swymnut Masters. I have expanded her approach to make this a full main set. This set is very easy to tailor to your swimmers and their individual needs.
The beauty of this set is that all swimmers start and end the set (and all segments) together. The swimmers can kick, drill, pull or swim any stroke or combination of strokes they desire. They can make this main set aerobic with just a little rest between, or push their anaerobic side by shortening the distance they choose to swim, but giving high effort to the swims. They can wear equipment, or not. Read more... |

Relay Order and Medical Bracelets
Q: We were told at nationals that we couldn't change the order of relay swimmers after we picked up the relay cards. Is that true? A: No, that is not true for any USMS-sanctioned meet. "Any changes in names of the competing swimmers or their order of swimming must be declared to the head lane timer prior to the start of the relay heat in which such relay is entered. No changes will be permitted thereafter." (102.9.5) The name of the leadoff swimmer must be clearly designated. (102.9.4) The order can be changed on the card by clearly writing the new number in the order of swimming next to each swimmer's name. It is critical that the leadoff swimmer's name is clearly identified on the card. Q: Our swimmer who has Crohn's Disease, is immunosuppressed, and is allergic to latex has been told for the fourth time to remove her medic alert bracelet or she will not be allowed to compete. Has the ruling on medic alert bracelets changed? A: No, it has not been changed. Under no circumstances should she remove the medic alert bracelet for competition. USMS has no rule addressing jewelry, but this is not a jewelry issue. The medic alert bracelet is essentially a doctor's note providing necessary information about life-threatening medical issues, and it must not be removed. Your swimmer will receive an official interpretation to show to meet referees, and it will be posted on the USMS website. For any questions about rules contact Kathy Casey, USMS Rules Chair |
