I'm Addicted
by Duncan Parlett
With my back troubles, swimming has become my main source of exercise. Naively, I thought that all I'd need to practice this sport was a swimsuit (and that only because of modesty). Wrong! There is nothing more addictive than swimming paraphernalia. Let me tell you my sad story. Read more...

5K and 10K Postals
Online Registration is now available for the 2011 USMS 5K/10K Postal National Championships. The objective is to swim 5K and/or 10K in any 50-meter pool you choose. Event results will be collected electronically or by mail so you can compare yourself to other swimmers doing the same event. Some do it for competition, others do it for fitness. Whatever the motivation, everyone is welcome to participate.

Beating Cancer One Lap at a Time
Our friends at Growing Bolder joined us at the USMS Spring Nationals in Mesa, Ariz. to gather some great stories of our swimmers. One of those is the story of Susan Helmrich, a three-time cancer survivor and a victim of one of the greatest drug tragedies in history. See the video for her incredible story. |

Really Cool Website of the Month
So why is RCWOM in the features section instead of in the left column, where it is supposed to be? Normally, we only get one or two submissions. Sometimes we don't get any and have to go surfing for awesome websites.
This month, not only did we receive three submissions for RCWOM from different clubs across the country, but they all had "Blue Wave" in their names. We figured the odds of this happening were pretty low, so we asked a local math whiz to crunch some numbers for us. He told us that there was a 0.0000028% of this happening. We're taking this as a sign that either something really cool just happened, or that the teams with Blue Wave in their names are involved in a conspiracy of some sort.
The three are:
Elgin Blue Wave Masters Swim Team in Elgin, Ill.
Blue Wave Aquatics in Federal Way, Wash.
Just for fun, we looked in our database to find any other clubs or workout groups with Blue Wave in their names, and found two more. One of them meets the criteria for being a RCWOM-- so here is that one as well:
Blue Wave Swim Team Ashburn Village, Va.
Kudos to all these Blue Wave teams-- they are connecting with their members and potential members with great websites.
To be considered for RCWOM, please make sure that your team's website includes the current USMS logo and Join/Renew membership button. You may submit your team name and web address to the USMS for consideration at press@usms.org

Deadline for Awards Extended
Do you know a volunteer who works hard for your team or LMSC? There are many awards that USMS uses to recognize the hard work accomplished by our many volunteers at the local, regional, and national levels. For more information on what the awards are and how to nominate a deserving volunteer, visit the Awards page at usms.org. This year, the deadline has been extended from July 1 to July 7.
