Greetings!
Check out the deadlines for several items in this issue: Meeting minutes, financial statements and election nominations.
And in keeping with the open water theme for the March-April issue of SWIMMER, our volunteer spotlight is on Tina Neill, who is making a difference in the Minnesota LMSC.
Thank you for all that you do!

Volunteer Profile: Tina Neill
| If Tina Neill could re-design the world, everyone would be comfortable around open water. Instead, she volunteers her time and incredible energy to make Minnesota, her current corner of the world, a better place for all swimmers and particularly those who love, or want to learn to love, the open water. Neill does not restrict her generosity to Masters swimmers, although they are her first love; we caught up with Neill in between her stints as a volunteer timer at the Men's NCAAs. Read more... |
Calendar of Events
| Do you grant the sanctions in your LMSC? You can also play a role in keeping the USMS Calendar of Events up to date. When you grant a sanction number to an event, please take a minute to submit that event to the USMS Calendar. Besides providing visibility for the event, adding it to the Calendar also enables USMS to track the event for meet results and Top 10 purposes. Just go to the Calendar and click "Add a New Event." |
LMSC Annual Meeting Minutes
| Per USMS Rule 502.3, each LMSC is required to hold an annual meeting that is open to all individual members of the LMSC. Your LMSC is required to take minutes at that meeting and, per Rule 502.7, send a copy of those minutes to the USMS National Office by April 30th of the following year. Please send the minutes to Anna Lea Matysek.
|
LMSC Financial Statements and Tax Filings | Per USMS Rule 502.7, each LMSC is required to send a copy of their annual financial report to the USMS National Office. The report consists of two simple financial statements: an income/expense report, and a balance sheet. Instructions for preparing the reports can be found in the Treasurer section of the Guide to Operations.
The IRS also requires each LMSC to file an annual 990 tax return. The rules have been modified for the 2010 tax year. They now allow any LMSC with gross receipts of $50,000 or less to file the 990-N form, which is done completely online.
Please send your financial report to Anna Lea Matysek. She can also provide you with instructions and links for filing your LMSC's 990 tax form. |
