Identifying your swimmers' needs to succeed
Craig Keller

Therefore, I've created a step-by-step process that will guarantee best times for your competitive swimmers at Nationals. Read more...

2012 FINA Masters World Championships - Riccione, Italy
FINA Logo
The XIV FINA Masters World Championships will be held in Riccione, Italy June 3rd - 17th, 2012.
The USMS Coaches Committee has created a subcommittee dedicated to International Coaching.  Previously USMS has sent coaches to The World Championships to provide on deck coaching and guidance, and support for USMS swimmers in attendance. The swimmers in attendance will not swim for team USA; rather they will continue to support their own club. However, the coaches are there as USMS representatives and will work to help each and every swimmer that desires it. Coaches should strive to create a sense of unification and a team spirit. More Suit Questions
Cathy Kasey

The Coach Asks: Are the old style Lycra or polyester suits that were never approved by FINA OK for USMS competition? Are the suits with a FINA 2009 stamp OK?

Answer: If the oldstyle Lycra and polyester suits and the 2009 FINA-stamped suits meet the FINA specifications, they can be worn for pool competition. A swimmer can only wear a suit that is either on the current FINA-approved list or meets the FINA swimsuit specifications (see 102.14 and the FINA website). FINA swimwear specifications include: textile fabrics; navel to not-below-the-knee for men and shoulder to not-below-the-knee (no sleeves) for women; no zippers or other fasteners except for waist ties on briefs or jammers; and no modesty/privacy wear, including jock straps, under the competition suit. For the FINA-approved suit list, go to fina.org and click on "Approved Swimsuits" on the top bar. For open water swimwear rules, see article 303.6 in the 2011 USMS Rule Book or contact longdistance@usms.org.
