Please encourage your swimmers to renew by December 31st

Members can renew online by visiting usms.org and clicking the red "Join/Renew" button in the upper right corner of the page.
Tracking Your Club Members Online

Using USMS.org to Keep Track of Your Members
computer 100It's easy to see if your swimmers have renewed their USMS memberships. This information is always available, in real-time, through the USMS web site. To view your club's roster, just follow these steps:

1)  Go to usms.org
2)  Click the blue "Local Programs" tab across the top
3)  Select your LMSC from the map or the pull-down list
4)  About halfway down the page, under "LMSC Size," select the hyperlinked word "members"

The resulting page displays a list of every member of your LMSC. You can filter this list by club by choosing a club from the top of the page.  You can also filter the list by workout group.

Until the end of January, this list will display both your club's 2010 and 2011 members. This makes it easy for you to view who has not yet renewed.

Making Masters Fun
Mel Goldstein

We all know Masters swimming is a lifetime activity, and the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle is gaining ground as everyone's paramount concern. All of us are fitness swimmers, whether we compete in meets or not. The word "Masters" in many ways intimidates new members as it denotes expertise rather than age. How do we break down this intimidation? We can make Masters fun, and never lose the party. Read more

Speedo One-Hour Postal National Championship

Prepare Your Swimmers Accordingly
2011 One Hour Postal This event runs from January 1st to January 31st, 2011. The objective is to have your swimmers swim as far as possible in one hour in any pool you choose that is 25 yards or longer. Your event results are to be sent in electronically or by mail so you can compare your swimmers to other swimmers doing the same event. The recorded distance (total yards swum) that you submit determines the order of finish. If two or more swimmers report the same distance, a tie will be declared.

This year's One-Hour Postal National Championships is hosted by the Tualatin Hills Barracudas. This is a USMS sanctioned event and all participants must be registered for 2011 with USMS (or the equivalent organization for non-U.S. swimmers). Foreign swimmers are not eligible for USMS records or All-American status. A copy of your current 2011 registration card must accompany your entry.

Rule Changes For 2011
Cathy Kasey

There are several important rule changes for 2011.  The new rules are effective January 1, 2011. Some of the most important changes are:

Qualification of Officials

A referee must be certified as a referee or receive training in the specific duties of a referee if certified as a starter or stroke and turn judge (Article 103.2.1). Starters and stroke and turn judges must receive training in the specific duties of those positions if uncertified (Article 103.2.2).

Split times for USMS Top 10 Recorded by Two Watches

Initial splits and relay leadoff splits can be recorded by a minimum timing level of two watches for USMS Top 10 (Articles 103.13.3 and 105.2.2).

Confirmation of Length of Moveable-Bulkhead Course Prior to Start of Meet

When a moveable bulkhead is used, the length of the course must be confirmed prior to the start of the meet (Article 105.1.7C).

USMS Record Applications Due Within 90 Days of the End of the Season
