The
Fond du Lac Center
for Spirituality and Healing will be offering yoga classes for breast
cancer
survivors and their caretakers. The classes will be held on Mondays
from 4 pm to 5:15 pm starting on February 1 and led by yoga instructor,
Suzanne
Boyle.
This series of classes is intended for not only the survivor
but also the caretaker who experiences much of the same stress and tension
throughout the healing process. Both are encouraged and invited to attend these
classes. Yoga, through numerous studies, has shown to have a positive impact on
mood and quality of life. Yoga also helps to manage the debilitating symptoms of pain, fatigue, and emotional distress that breast
cancer patients suffer.
This gentle class will begin by targeting how to relax the
body, develop breath control, and deepen awareness of the body. Basic poses
will focus on building flexibility, strength, and balance. The class is
intended to allow for a gradual progression that encourages improvement at
one's own pace through mindful and pain-free movement.
These classes are funded in part by an ACTs grant from the Congregation
of the Sisters of St. Agnes. The sisters are well known in the area for their
generous contributions to programs that support women's issues. This grant makes it possible for all women
interested to take this class regardless of their financial status. All women who wish to participate are
eligible for a 50% discount ($5 per class).
For those who are experiencing financial distress, there are full
scholarships available.
