The Egoscue Method

Greetings!
Have you ever had pain and wondered "Why me?" Well, rest assured - you're not alone. Everyone experiences pain at some point in their life. There's a Buddhist saying, "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional."
Maybe you've heard this saying before and wondered what it means. Well, on a wonderful trip to Fiji in July, I got a firsthand experience with this. Jumping up and down on a trampoline, I reached down for a ball while my momentum was bouncing up and WHAMMO! There went my back.
I went through the typical "Oh crap" to the thought "This is a pretty bad one." And, never having experienced this severe of a pain in my back, I was struggling with my options at that point. After going through the worst case scenarios in my mind (ruptured disc, hobbled, surgery), I rationalized, "I'm in Fiji! Where would I go for help anyway?" So, I went to my toolbox and started doing e-cises to get my body back in repair.
After 2 or 3 exercises, I was already feeling better. Overall, it took a couple of days just to get back to some sense of normalcy in walking and sitting. And within the week, I was back up to where hiking was possible. It was an interesting experience that I share with you to let you know that none of us is immune to pain. And WHEN it happens, it's a matter of "what am I going to do about it?" This is where you can leverage what you know.
I'm thankful that I know Egoscue and had the tools to get out of pain. I struggle with the notion that people suffer unnecessarily with pain and allow it to persist. Don't let it happen to you! Pain is inevitable, suffering is truly OPTIONAL.

Tips for Healthy Aging
When we were kids, we'd sit around and imagine how old we'd live til. "I'm gonna live to 90!" "I'm gonna get to 100!" And we'd go up from there. Unfortunately, there weren't many examples back then of centenarians around to lead the way or set the example. Now, however, life expectancies are reaching up to the 100's with centenarians becoming one of the fastest growing age groups. So, the question now becomes not how LONG will you live, but how WELL will you live.

What type of life do you expect to live as you get older? Do you picture yourself active & playing sports like golf, socializing with friends, and enjoying family and friends? Or do you picture yourself stuck in a wheelchair, isolated and dependent on others? I don't think any of us think we'll be stuck in the position of dependency or at least hope we won't. The key then is to direct our path now in the choices we make so that our destination is an enjoyable one.

Quality of life is a major factor when you start to reach into the future and imagine what it will be like. You may already be feeling the effects of decisions you've made to get you to this point. Here's the important thing to know -- The body is in CONSTANT RENEWAL. As a stimulus-response system, the body responds to what we feed it -- in the form of nutrition, exercise, mindset, and the environments we place ourselves in.

The beauty of the life we lead is that we have so many choices. We are free to go where we like, choose where & what to eat, and have virtually unlimited choices of where we situate ourselves. And while the upside is that we have choice, the downside for some is the indecision. Not making a choice is just as bad as making an unhealthy one in many instances. We should know our direction and path in order to make a more compelling future for ourselves. That being said, here are some basics we can all incorporate into our lives now to build a strong foundation for our future self...
