Fairfax, Marin City & Novato Markets Close for the Season
Thank YOU for a great season!
It's the turn of the season, and almost time to say goodbye to some of our favorite summer crops (corn, raspberries, and peaches). Reluctantly, we bid farewell to our seasonal markets as the days get shorter and the nights longer.
Many thanks to the shoppers, local businesses, the Town of Fairfax, the City of Novato and Marin City for welcoming and supporting our family of local farmers, food purveyors and artisans. We look forward to seeing you next May. Until then, we invite you to join us year round on Thursdays and Sundays at the Marin Civic Center, 8 am - 1 pm. |

Last Call for Bioneers Farm Tour
October 14th, 2010, 8:30 am - 5 pm
Join AIM, Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT), and Bioneers on Thursday, October 14th to explore three diversified family farms and ranches in Marin County. Learn how value-added products and techniques to sequester carbon are helping farmers tackle challenges as basic as financial viability, and as complex as global climate change. Featured farms and ranches include Nicasio Valley Cheese Co., Allstar Organics, the Marin Carbon Project, and Devil's Gulch Ranch. Lunch will be provided by educater, Fork Full of Earth. Click here to learn more and to register. Just a few spots left!
Bioneers Celebrates a Local Food Shed
Conference participants will have much to savor in between sessions, thanks to Bioneers' commitment to sourcing locally grown ingredients for its conference lunches and dinners from AIM farmers and food purveyors. In 2009, Bioneers sourced nearly $14,500 of product from 43 AIM farmers and food purveyors, through AIM's Farm to Fork program. AIM is working closely with Bioneers, Chef Dave Huerls of Embassy Suites, and Chef Seann of Epicurean at Marin Academy for another delicious year of locally procured meals.
Bioneers is a premiere environmental conference that features social and scientific innovators sharing new ideas and tools that enable people to create positive change in their own communities. The conference takes place October 15th-17th at the Marin Center in San Rafael - check out their line-up for 2010. Scroll down to the bottom of this email to get a 10% discount on your conference registration non-member fees! |
Sunday Supper on Us!
NewPark Mall Collaborates with the Newark Farmers Market on a Token Program
During the month of October, the NewPark Mall will exchange your receipts from NewPark Mall vendors for tokens redeemable at the Newark Farmers Market on Sundays. Bring your receipts to the Mall Management office to receive $5 - $20 in tokens that can be cashed in for fruits, veggies and prepared foods from your favorite farmers market vendors. Tokens can be redeemed at the Newark Farmers Market through the end of December 2010. Many thanks to the NewPark Mall for their generosity! |
All Hallow's Eve
Celebrate with Your Family at the Farmers Market This year Halloween falls on Sunday, Oct. 31st . . . but AIM will be celebrating all week long! Leading up to Halloween each AIM farmers market will have a pumpkin decorating station set up at the information booth. Every child will receive a free pumpkin and the opportunity to get creative with local fruits and veggies, stylin' their very own "Mr. Pumpkin Head". Because one day a year isn't enough time to show off your Halloween getup, we invite you to come to the market in character! It's a fact that shopping for locally grown food is even more enjoyable when you're in costume. |

- Newark: Rhodes Family Farm West will be returning to the market in the next few weeks with the first crop of persimmons! Farmer Jeff Rhodes brings five varieties to market to share with Newark residents, including Tamopan, a variety from China.
