Official Name Change!
We are proud to announce that after a thoughtful and creative process undertaken by a Naming Committee composed of three of our Board of Trustees and our staff, we have settled on a new name - a subtle reincarnation of MAI. From here on out, our 501(c)(3) non-profit will be called (drum roll please . .) Agricultural Institute of Marin, aka Ag Institute or AIM. Yes, we know it's not earth-shattering, but we believe it will serve us well as we move forward as one unified organization representing and serving regional farmers and diverse Bay Area communities, while being based in Marin County.

Marin City Farmers Market Postponed
After much consideration, the Ag Institute has decided to postpone the opening of the Marin City Farmer Market. In Spring 2009, the Milagro Foundation invited the Ag Institute to join them in their efforts to bring healthy food to Marin City. At that time, there was no substantial farmers market in Southern Marin. Simultaneously, the Ag Institute was asked by Whole Foods if we would open a market in Mill Valley at the Alto Shopping Center. We declined because of our commitment to Marin City. Since that time, Whole Foods partnered with another business to open a year-round farmers market at the Mill Valley site. Given recent discussion surrounding the proliferation of farmers markets in California, the Ag Institute has decided to not open a market in Marin City at this time. |
