Marin Agricultural Institute is thrilled to have received a grant from the Farmer's Market Promotion Program of USDA to do community outreach to promote and increase food stamp usage (aka: EBT - Electronic Benefit Transfer) at our farmers markets.

In 2008 $1109 of EBT was used at our farmers markets. In 2009 that number more than tripled, with $3,682 of EBT reimbursed at our markets to date. We hope to see an exponential increase in EBT usage at our farmers markets in 2010 - it's part of our goal of ensuring that healthy, locally grown food is accessible for all.

Speaking of food access - check out our affordability chart for the winter season. By comparing 12 fruits and vegetables (both organic and conventional) we found that the total average prices at our Marin Civic Center Farmers Markets came in 70 cents below two local supermarkets.
