Message from a alumnus... |
"I miss the Children's Home and all the people I became so close to there. We all were like a big family. I was in the Children's Home for two years and kind of miss it."
|
Please remember that we would like school supplies as soon as possible. It takes a great deal of effort to prepare so many residents for the first day of school (August 20).
Each summer we always look forward to welcoming the Leadership Team from the Warren W. Willis United Methodist Youth Camp in Leesburg, Florida. They lead the Sunday morning chapel service and give our young people a wonderful worship experience. After our residents have attended a week of summer camp, it is a great treat for them to reconnect with the team members. Following the chapel service, the Leadership Team and the entire campus enjoy a picnic lunch together.
Please let us know what you are creatively doing to promote the Children's Home and the Fifth Sunday Offering. We will share it with others in the newsletter.
We do all we can to maintain an accurate and up-to-date list of Local Church Representatives. We rely on you to notify us when any change takes place. Please keep us informed if a new LCR is selected, or any of your contact information changes. |

EDUCATION CELEBRATION
Pictured are just two of the residents that received awards. Our Associate Chaplain, Ryan Frack, recognized each recipient.
The second half of the school year brought more strong achievements in the classroom. We celebrate this success with an Awards Night in the chapel. Our education program, located in the Worrell Memorial Education Center, provides numerous resources including a library, computers, resource materials, tutoring rooms and more to help enhance what each boy and girl receives in school every day. The following is a look at some of the awards for the second half of the school year:
14 residents made the Honor Roll
40 residents increased their GPA
36 residents received all Good Conduct Marks
on their report cards
8 residents were recognized for
having a GPA over 3.50
5 residents were in the Gifted Program
1 resident was inducted into the
National Honor Society
2 residents were awarded
"Most Improved" students. |
Current Commissary Needs
With so many young people on our campus, we use up many common hygiene items quickly. Unless they are donated by friends of the Children's Home, we need to purchase them. Any help with the following items will be greatly appreciated.
Shampoo
Conditioner
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Dental Floss
Bar Soap
Q-Tips
Disposable Razors

Quilts and Afghans Needed
We welcome each young person that comes into the Children's Home with several gifts to help them feel at home. One of these gifts is a quilt or afghan. This loving keepsake becomes theirs and goes with them when they leave our care. At the moment, we have very few left. We appreciate the groups and individuals who make it their ministry to provide these wonderful gifts. Please consider giving a gift of a quilt or afghan to help welcome a young person into the ministry of the Children's Home. Please send them to the attention of Stephen Hartsfield. |
