"When we sat in your office, you assured us that you would be able to help our daughter, but we never expected her to totally change as she has done!  We knew she belonged there, but leaving her there was one of the hardest things we ever had to do and as it has proved, the best thing that we have ever done for her and our family."

Reverend Bess Bussey is Retiring

Bess

After serving the Children's Home for 17 years, the Reverend Bess Bussey is going to enjoy a much deserved and earned retirement.  Bess has been vital in strengthening our relationship with LCRs, pastors, volunteers and churches.  Bess has traveled countless miles and visited the vast majority of local churches across the Florida Annual Conference.  Bess has been essential working with volunteers to make Day On Campus a success each year as well as numerous other special events.  Bess was the driving force to make sure our boys and girls always enjoyed a special Christmas.  For all the tasks, great and small, Bess has done over the years, we will miss her.  She has been a blessing to residents, staff, pastors, churches and LCRs.  Bess shares the following:

"Thank You!  Officially, I retire from active ministry with the Florida United Methodist Annual Conference on June 15.  My last day in full-time ministry at the Children's Home is June 30.  It has been an honor for me to serve on the staff of the Children's Home for the past 17 years and to work with the Local Church Representatives. Your faithful service as the LCR is one of the key factors in providing the on-going Church support for this ministry.  What you do, does make a difference in the lives of the children, youth, and families that the Home serves.   Stephen Hartsfield will continue to work with you as the Director of Church Relations.  Many of our LCRs have provided volunteers for events for Residential Care or Foster Care Programs.  Lynn Bellomy is now on our staff as the Volunteer Coordinator.  You may contact Lynn by calling the Children's Home at 386-668-4774.  She comes to our staff from the "Give Kids The World" organization.  For questions regarding donations, please call the Development Office at 386-668-5088."

Goodbye to Rev. Denny McCullough

We are also bidding farewell to Reverend Denny McCullough, who will be returning to the local church as pastor of Mims United Methodist Church.  Denny served as Chaplain of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home for 16 years.  For the past two years, Denny has been the Director of Ministry Support working with LCRs and local churches to better connect with the Children's Home.  Denny's presence will be missed on our campus and we wish him well.  Mims United Methodist Church will be blessed.

            National Day of Prayer
Madison Youth Ranch

On May 3, 2012, which was the National Day of Prayer, a prayer service and picnic was held at our new Madison Youth Ranch property.  Over 250 people came from all parts of the Florida Conference to celebrate and devote a special time of prayer and to celebrate this new endeavor and expansion of the ministry of the Children's Home.  Special speakers, a local youth choir, property deed signing and a delicious lunch made for an inspiring day.  Reverend Bob Laidlaw, pastor of First UMC, Madison, Florida gave an inspiring message during lunch.
