Do you understand,
my smile is not real?
It's only a disguise.
It covers how I really feel.
Do you understand,
my laugh is phony too?
Only my eyes
hide the truth.
Ask me how I feel,
and my tongue may tell all lies.
You can find the truth,
just look into my eyes.
Is your truth here also,
or am I the only one;
whose eyes tell what I'm feeling,
and who no one understands.

Mrs. Linda Grund, an alumnus of the Children's Home, is an official candidate for Mayor of Orlando, Florida. She holds a Masters Degree in Non Profit Management from the University of Central Florida. We are very proud of her and wish her well as she undertakes this exciting challenge.
A big THANK YOU goes to Lowe's. The home improvement chain donated materials and their employees came to the Children's Home and have helped to completely renovate and update Fox Wright Home. They are called Lowe's Heroes and they certainly were for the Children's Home. We are deeply grateful for their generosity.
A group of our boys and girls worked hard and practiced a few months and presented a musical called "Good Kings Come in Small Packages." It was a wonderful performance enjoyed by our campus, the trustees and many guests.

Dedication Celebration!
On September 20, 2011, a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the Trish and Dan Bell Home and the Sarah Hunt Home. These two homes will allow the Children's Home to care for approximately 16-20 more children in need. Construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony on March 29, 2011.

One newly built home is funded by Trish and Dan Bell, who are both serving on the Board of Trustees for the Children's Home. The Bells stated, "It was also abundantly clear that the new residents are extremely excited to be moving in, and our being able to witness their joy 'up close and in person' was an extraordinary blessing for us. Usually, when one makes a gift of this magnitude, it is for a 'program' or to something so large or so long in coming to fruition that one rarely gets to witness an immediate benefit in the lives of the folks you are trying to support. Yesterday's event, especially with the new residents present and proudly showing off their new rooms, sure reversed that pattern!" The Bells are members of First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, Florida.

Another home is named for Sarah Davis Hunt, a visionary African American woman who founded the Mother Hunt's Orphanage in Daytona Beach, Florida (c. 1925). The Home also provided care for African American elderly. A tireless fundraiser, she was known for carrying a basket around the businesses and streets of Daytona Beach collecting donations. The Sarah Hunt Home continued on after her death in 1936. In 1960, the Methodist Church began to support the Home and in 1962 took ownership of the ministry and the name was changed to the Sarah Hunt Methodist Children's Home. In 1969, the Sarah Hunt Methodist Children's Home became a part of the Florida Methodist Children's Home and the two ministries were fully merged in 1971 and became the Florida United Methodist Children's Home. Mother Hunt, as she was affectionately known, was a talented and generous woman with a great warm heart that made a difference in the lives of countless children, youth and adults.
The homes were designed and constructed by McCree General Contractors & Architects.

Challenge Grant for Foster Care

The Children's Home has received a challenge grant from Dr. Phillips Charities in the amount of $165,500 for (1) supporting foster care in Orange and Osceola Counties and (2) initiating parent coaching sessions with the goal of reuniting families. The Children's Home must both contribute and raise $165,500 in order to meet the challenge grant.
For every dollar you donate by October 15, 2011, both Dr. Phillips Charities and the Trustees of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home will each MATCH your dollar! This is a special opportunity to help the children who truly need it the most.
That means every dollar YOU donate will be matched TWO-FOR-ONE! That TRIPLES your gift!
One portion of the grant money will be used to support the necessary staffing and programming for the Florida United Methodist Children's Home to use our pioneering and highly successful model to train and license more foster care parents who can help these abused children. They need safe, stable homes that can meet all their needs - physical, emotional, social, educational, medical, and developmental -- so they begin the process of healing and learning to trust again.
Your donation means more loving foster care families to care for these helpless children!
Experienced and highly qualified staff for this project will recruit, license, support, and maintain foster homes as well as provide out-patient counseling services to foster families. Foster Care parents must be recruited, trained, licensed, and supported - then they are able to open their homes and their hearts to children who need a safe and loving haven from the storms they have weathered at such a tender age.
The second portion of the grant will be used to begin parent coaching sessions, which will include group parenting classes, supervised visits with constructive feedback, court required progress reports, substance abuse testing, and help transporting children to the site for visits. It is always our goal to reunite families, and with proper training, this is often a very real possibility. With nearly $14 million in grants made in fiscal years 2010 to central Florida nonprofits, Dr. Phillips Charities (comprised of The Dr. P. Phillips Foundation and Dr. Phillips, Inc.) continues to respond to the needs of the Central Florida community by directly touching the lives of thousands of children and families each year.
