"I would like to thank the staff of the Children's Home for helping me realize that I could succeed at the goals I set for myself. I would especially like to thank my houseparents for having faith in me no matter what. As for my plans after high school, I hope with help from the Home to attend cottage and to major in elementary education."

One of our high school boys received an invitation to join the National Society of High School Scholars. This young man has been working very hard to succeed in school.
We said goodbye to a longtime LCR that will be greatly missed. Ruth Hawke passed away at age 95. She served as LCR for 18 years at First UMC, Winter Garden until the age of 91. She helped her church to fall in love and stay in love with the Children's Home. One of the specific things she will be remembered for is her challenge to the church to collect a "mile of pennies" as an "extra mile of giving" to the Children's Home. Please keep Ruth's family in your prayers & her church who loved her very much.
The quilting group from First UMC, Port Orange called Love In Stitches presented us with 30 handmade quilts and 26 pillows. What a wonderful donation that represents many, many hours of loving work on behalf of the children and young people in our care! When a resident receives a quilt it becomes theirs and we know that it will be appreciated for years to come. Thank you so much for remembering our children and helping them to feel welcome and loved. LCR's Mrs. & Mrs. Kiel are presenting the quilts.
Sun Ray UMC in Frostproof is consistently one of the best giving churches to the Children's Home year after year. Each Fifth Sunday the prelude music is a medley of children's songs to remind the worshippers of the children they are caring for at the Children's Home. |

Over 1,100 Enjoy Day On Campus

On March 19, 2011, over 1,100 United Methodists and friends of the Children's Home enjoyed a fun and festive day celebrating the ministry of the Home. Most of our guests came from the Atlantic Central District and South East District, but churches were represented from all over the Florida Annual Conference.
Our annual Day On Campus is our way of saying thank you to the local United Methodist Churches and the many friends of the Children's Home who support us with such generosity. Each year we specifically invite two or three districts, but you are free to come any year. The Day On Campus celebration is always the third Saturday of March each year. It is a great day that includes tours of the campus, a program featuring the residents, a picnic lunch under a big top tent, and the fellowship of other United Methodists from around the Florida Conference. If you have never attended a Day On Campus, please make plans to bring a group from your church. It is a great way to introduce people to the Children's Home. The following is the schedule of invited districts for the next few years.

March 17, 2012 East Central - South West
March 16, 2013 Gulf Central - South Central
March 15, 2014 North West - North Central - North East
March 21, 2015 Atlantic Central - South East

Ground was officially broken on March 29, 2011 for two new resident cottages. The Trish and Dan Bell Cottage and the Sarah Hunt Home are beginning to rise. Dan and Trish Bell serve on our Board of Trustees and are members at First UMC, Coral Gables. Sarah Hunt was a pioneering African American woman who founded of the Sarah Hunt Home in Daytona Beach for orphans and indigent elderly in 1925. In 1971 the Children's Home and the Sarah Hunt Home officially merged. We will keep you posted on the progress of the two cottages. |

IMMEDIATE NEED!

Our driver's education program is in need of a replacement car. We are looking for a four-door sedan not more than 8 years old with less than 80,000 miles on the vehicle. Our driver's education program needs a safe and reliable vehicle to teach our young people how to drive and secure their first driver's license. The current car is a 2004 model that is in need of significant repair work that would not be cost effective to attempt. Please support us in our commitment to help prepare our young people to succeed in the world.

Volunteer Appreciation
| |
Mike Galloway, President of the Children's Home, presents an award to Mrs. Lorraine Thompson who has been a volunteer for 27 years and who created and built the current volunteer program into the effective group it is today. |
Recently we hosted a dinner to celebrate our volunteers. We could not operate the Children's Home without a dedicated corps of volunteers. We have volunteers that come in and work on a daily basis, some weekly, others seasonal, and still others come in for special events. We also host a number of church work groups. We could not accomplish all we do without our wonderful volunteers. If you would like more information about how you or a group from your church might volunteer, please contact Zoe Peterson at zoe.peterson@fumch.org, or call (386) 668-4774.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!
Do you know a married couple in your church who might be interested in exploring the unique opportunity of serving as houseparents at the Children's Home? We are always looking for couples who feel called to be in ministry together and make a real and lasting impact in the lives of children and youth. If you have questions, or would like more information, please email our Director of Human Resources at jobs@fumch.org. The following is part of the job posting for the postition.
"This position is for a married couple only. The primary role of the Residential Child Care Specialists/Houseparents (RCCS) is to oversee the day-to-day care and supervision of the children assigned to their cottage. The RCCS are responsible for monitoring all the aspects of daily cottage life and are, in essence, the primary caring persons for the child/youth during his/her stay at the Florida United Methodist Children's Home.
