There is someone who died for our sins.
He saved the wreck which was me.
He turned my life around,
and worked from cocoon to butterfly.
It was like a miracle.
He loves me at all times,
and died on the cross for all my sins.
That person is Jesus. |

OPPORTUNITIES
Share a Chrismon
If your church is putting up a Chrismon Tree, would you be willing to give one of the symbols to the Children's Home? We are planning to place a Christmas Tree in our chapel as yet another way to help teach our residents about the meaning of the Christmas season. If you do have a Chrismon ornament you would like to share with the Children's Home, please send it to the Home in care of Stephen Hartsfield. Thank you so much. Every church that sends us a Chrismon, we will send you a 2010 Chilren's Home Christmas ornament.
Christmas Catalog
The 2010 Christmas Catalog has been mailed. If you would like additional copies of the catalog, please ontact our Development Office at (386) 668-5088. The Christmas Catalog has proven to be a meaningful and successful way to give to loved ones and help to make Christmas brighter and more joyous for our boys and girls in care.
Basket of Blessings
Community United Methodist Church in DeBary, Florida has undertaken a project to help our Independent Living Program, which provides support to the young men and women in our care that are turning 18. Whether heading into the work world or going off to school, these young people need encouragement as they transition to adulthood. The church is providing a Basket of Blessings to help them make this transition. Between January and April 2011, 12 young people are turning 18 years old. Can your church provide a basket? It begins with a laundry basket which is then filled with a simple cookbook, pot holders, kitchen towels, an inexpensive set of pots and pans, basic kitchen utensils, simple silverware, dishwashing soap and a daily devotional book. If you would like to take on this project, please call Stephen Hartsfield or Bess Bussey at (386) 668-4774. Thank you to Marsha Royle, LCR at Community UMC, DeBary.
History Book
Looking for a gift idea for this Christmas? A written history of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home is available for purchase. If you would like to obtain a copy of the book, please contact our Development Office at (386) 668-5088.
New LCR Information
This is the time of year when local church officers are elected for 2011. If a change in the LCR has been made, please send us the updated information. We make every effort to keep our records up-to-date and accurate. If the contact information has been changed for the current LCR, we need that information as well. Thank you for the vital work our LCRs do on behalf of the Children's Home.

Recent Happenings...

For the third year in a row the United Methodist Men of the East Central District sponsored a Motorcycle Benefit Run to support the Children's Home. It was called the "Hope Bike Run". We especially appreciate the men of DeLeon Springs United Methodist Church for spearheading this event. This year they raised over $3,000 for the Children's Home. Thank You!
********************

Each year the Children's Home hosts a Teacher Appreciation Day. All of the teachers for our young people are invited to a lunch at which our boys and girls sing and perform. Following lunch many of the residents take their teacher back to their cottage for a tour. We deeply appreciate all the teachers in Volusia County that work each day with our residents and challenge them to achieve in school. |
Please make note of the dates and times of the upcoming LCR training events. Please plan to attend one of these events so that you will receive the latest news about the Children's Home and meet and fellowship with other Local Church Representatives. If you have any questions, you can contact Stephen Hartsfield or Bess Bussey. We will update the list as information becomes available.

LCR TESTIMONIAL
For years my father, Lawrence Halsey, was the Florida UM Children's Home representative at First UMC in Gainesville. Each 5th Sunday, my father would wear this "special" outfit that he thought went with the Children's Home hat. It was a really awful light pink polyester leisure suit. He would dress in his Children's Home outfit and go to each of the adult Sunday school classes and speak to the congregation to promote donations to the Children's Home.
Some years ago, he was hospitalized and realized that the following Sunday was going to be the 5th Sunday. He was not going to be able to be at church to wear the Children's Home hat and make his rounds. He was concerned about missing the Children's Home Sunday. So he asked my oldest sister who was down from NY, "Will you wear the Children's Home hat on Sunday and go to the adult classes to drum up support?" She answered, "Sure." Then he asked, "And did you bring that pink suit you have?" "Yes," she replied. "Wear that," he said, "and then come back here and tell me how it went."
Our father died that Friday night. My sister didn't want to let him down but didn't know how she could now do what he had asked. I offered to go with her, thinking that together we could do it. That Sunday morning, she wore her pink suit, and we went hand-in-hand like little children, crying, to each of the classes, telling them that Dad had died and that he was making his final appeal, through us, to support the Children's Home.
