By: Amy Ball Personal Trainer The heat is on! Looks like we are in store for a hot summer! Be careful when you're outside. It is extremely important to hydrate and stay cool. But don't let the heat stop you from your workouts. Whether you work out inside, outside or both, hydrating is essential. Here are a few tips to help you have a better quality workout and stay safe. On average, we need 12 to 16 cups of water a day during normal environmental temperatures and activities. Water has a number of functions in the body, one of which is controlling our body temperature when we exercise. Therefore, it is essential that you drink plenty of water before, during and after you exercise during this hot summer. Continued at our fitness blog

I would like to thank FP clients David Bartley and Bill Goodman for being so kind as to show up on the day we were moving the gym and helping us with this monumental task. It definitely "took a village" and we needed all the help we could get. Thanks again for the generosity of your time and muscle. You both got a gold star in your workout logs for that day.

Greetings!
Hope you all are enjoying life at "middle earth" these last few weeks. It has been a tough summer so far. I'm guessing that for many of you your outdoor activity has plummeted to mid-winter levels. It's a bummer that so much of the precious summer weeks have been almost impossible to enjoy outside. This is usually the time of year where buring extra calories with an extra 9 holes on the golf course, a walk after dinner or a walk to dinner, makes it easy to lose a few pounds in the summer. Be aware, you may have to really watch what you are eating these days and make sure that it matches the amount of activity you are doing. Enjoy your peaches and tomatoes; just go easy on the burgers and hot dogs. Hopefully the temps will get back to normal and we a be out and about soon. For everyday health tips, don't forget to check out Fitness Plus on Twitter and Facebook, as well as the Fitness Plus blog. Have a great month,
Sheila

13 Best Food Combos on the Planet
From OrganicGardening.com Who came up with the idea that we are supposed to drink orange juice at breakfast? And why, if oatmeal is so good for us, do we eat that only in the morning as well? Apologies to the Palinites, but nutritionists are starting to realize that you and I like our oatmeal and OJ before we start the day because we evolved to like it that way-because enjoying the two together is healthier than eating each of them alone. Epidemiologist David R. Jacobs, Ph.D., of the University of Minnesota calls it food synergy, and he, along with many other nutritionists, believes it might explain why Italians drizzle cold-pressed olive oil over tomatoes and why the Japanese pair raw fish with soybeans.
