 When Perfect doesn't Produce
"This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections"
Saint Augustine
By: Gary Ditsch Personal Trainer I am sometimes asked, "What is the most difficult thing about training other people?" I am not sure what they anticipate my response to be, but the answer I give sometimes surprises them. The hardest thing about training is not teaching new exercises and skills, or dealing with injuries and physical limitations, nor finding ways to fit activity into a overly scheduled day. The hardest thing about training other people is creating an awareness about fitness and health that their dedication doesn't have to be "all" or "nothing". The mindset of many people when they seek a trainer is that they are going to "buckle down and get this right". They know that there are behavioral changes to make, they have motivation to make it happen and they are going to use the help of a trainer to facilitate those changes. The work begins with scheduled strength workouts, mobility and flexibility sessions and cardiovascular exercise. The nutritional discussions begin, with commitments to improve the quality of foods they eat and manage the quantity of food consumed. The plan to an improved lifestyle is underway ... then life happens. A missed workout, an unforeseen piece of birthday cake at the office, the decisions come so fast and hard that it becomes a little overwhelming. Continued at our fitness blog

Congratulations to FP client, Teresa Conigliaro (trained by Nikki Ditsch) for completing her first half marathon? Teresa, a high school senior, trained herself for the grueling "Flying Pig" half marathon in Cincinnati, OH. It was a hot day and water on the course was scarce, but she toughed it out and completed the race in 2:51:43. Way to go Teresa!

Greetings!
And, just like that......it's May; Keeneland is dark till October, the Derby is over, school is almost out. Time to get in full summer mode: get out the clubs, racquets, swim suits and gardening gloves. While we at Fitness Plus are busy getting your new gym on National ready, you should be planning your summer play schedule and how activity can play a major part in it. Yet another study was just released reaffirming that 30 minutes 5 times a week of activity is one of the "keys" to better health and a higher quality of life. This message keeps coming up over and over again.........listen! Don't get caught up in the hype of the latest workout craze; work your heart via walk/run/bike 4 or 5 times a week; work your muscles via strength training 1-2 times per week. Keep it simple and you will do it. For everyday health tips, don't forget to check out Fitness Plus on Twitter and Facebook, as well as the Fitness Plus blog. Have a great month,
Sheila

"Great healthy summer recipes from Giada:"
From Womens Health Magazine
There was a time when Giada could while away hours shopping at a market and then preparing a three-course meal. But these days-aside from special occasions-she doesn't have time for that luxury. Her latest cookbook, Weeknights with Giada, gives you a taste of what the busy chef puts on her own table-from sandwiches, to spins on restaurant favorites, to breakfast for dinner (a tradition in her house). Each meal takes under an hour to make.
Try it: Instead of yogurt in salad dressings or smoothies. Plain kefir is in the dairy aisle, but Lifeway also makes a dessert-ready frozen variety
