Pound of fat or a pound of muscle? By Katie Dennison Personal Trainer
So what weights more a pound of fat or a pound of muscle?
So you jump on the scale in the morning and see a number that you either love or hate that number. But what does that number really tell you. Not much more than how much gravity is pulling you towards the center of the earth. But what your looking for is a number to tell you if your healthy or not. Well this number is a little more complicated; your body is made up of many things most obviously water, bone, muscle and fat.
So when you jump on the scale in the morning your really wanting to know what percent of that number is fat, muscle, water and bone. So how do you find out how much fat and muscle you have. Well the only true way in on autopsy so since most of us wouldn't opt for that method, bioelectrical impedance devices while not 100% accurate can give you a good idea of your percent body fat and in some models your muscle, and water content. Bioelectrical impedance devices work by sending a small-pain free electrical signal through your body, the speed at which this signal passes through your body allows the device to estimate your percent body fat.
SO now you have a percentage when you jump on your brand -new fat analyzing scale. So how do you know if you should love or hate this number? You can check this chart to see what the national recommendations are for your age.

Greetings!
Greetings and welcome to spring. KY is such a beautiful place this time of year. Take advantage of the beauty and the weather; go for a walk in your neighborhood, or better yet, head to a new neighborhood; a change of scenery makes for a great walk. Congratulations to all of you who workout on a regular basis. You have helped contribute to the good rankings that Central KY counties have some of the best health rankings in the state. As a whole, the state of KY has multiple health issues, but central KY is in pretty good shape. It is sad that the best rankings coincide directly with the highest socio-economic and education levels in the state. I do hope that money and education can removed as barriers to good health in the future. For now, please take advantage of the opportunities you have to be healthy as a benefit of where you live. For everyday health tips, don't forget to check out Fitness Plus on Twitter and Facebook, as well as the Fitness Plus blog. Have a great month,
Sheila

We wanted to acknowledge Fitness Plus client Dr. Neil Armstrong for the hard work he has been putting in with his trainer Josh Sato. An avid runner, but newcomer to strength training, Dr. Armstrong has made some impressive gains in his muscle strength and power.
Please view this video and see how Dr. Armstrong took on and beat the 24" plyometric box. This box is usually only used by the "under 30 yrs old" set; Dr. Armstrong is.................let's just say over 30. Very impressive.
