From the Trainers...
|
No Time for Exercise? Really? by Jackie Hanson, Personal Trainer
The number one excuse people use for not exercising is lack of time.
While our hectic lives complicate matters, the reality is that if you want
to make it work, you'll make it work. For the most part, people who
make it to the gym regularly or exercise at least 3-5 times per week
aren't doing it because they have "more free time"; they have made a
commitment to their health and are doing something about it.
This month carve out more time during your week to exercise in addition
to what you are already doing with your trainer. It's a win/win situation because
your trainer will be thrilled and you will feel empowered. |

Active Rehab and Fitness Keith Duerler, MPT
I am excited about becoming a full-time partner with the
Fitness Plus Team, adding to the personal training I have been doing and
opening up my own physical therapy clinic, on-site at 324 N. Ashland.
My primary purpose is to be a valuable resource to you or
anyone you know regarding personal fitness and rehabilitation of any injuries
you may be dealing with.
I will be contributing a section in this newsletter every
month spotlighting what I feel are informative topics regarding my areas of
expertise. As always, I am available anytime to provide free
consultations. For this first month I thought I would begin by giving an
overview of what a physical therapist does and how what I can offer could be of
benefit to you.
To become a physical therapist, one must complete a four-year
undergraduate degree with a science-based curriculum and then go through a
competitive process to be accepted to an undergraduate school for a 2 1/2 to 3
year program. This puts physical therapists' training in line with chiropractors
and physician assistants.
A physical therapist is educated to take a thorough history
of any injury, provide a complete diagnostic evaluation, and determine an appropriate
plan of treatment. Once practicing, physical therapists can develop a wide
range of expertise in different areas depending on their clinical experiences
and desires.
I am confident my education and over a decade of experience
can add to the health and overall wellness of Fitness Plus clients. I look
forward to helping you in any way I can.
Have a great, healthy month.

Greetings!
February.............a brutal month. The dead of winter, but you can
see spring on the horizon, just teasing you. I know it's hard to stay motivated
at this time of year, but hang in there; the sun and warmth will be coming
soon. Some of you are lucky enough and smart enough to get away this month;
good for you, enjoy the change of scenery. Going to a new environment often
energizes you and motivates you to get out and walk or run more than you do at
home. Taking long walks in new surroundings is also fun and a great way to find
the unexpected site, shop or eatery.
For those of you stuck here, in the dreary, gray, cold, try
your best to stick to your workout routine. Keeping in your routine is a good
way to get through each day; it doesn't leave you time to think about "if" you
want to workout. You just go, because it's your day and time. Also, if getting
outside to do your cardio is getting tough, try finding a partner to hit the
streets with............misery loves company...........just kidding.
Have a good month and I will talk to you next
when the daffodils are coming up.
Have a great month,
Sheila

The Symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder
SparkPeople
Many of us might say that being less active in the winter is the normal
cycle of life. A less peppy mood may be typical in this season, but for
some people, cold weather and lack of sunshine bring on more than the
usual winter blahs. It can bring on a form of clinical depression
called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Read more from SparkPeople.com >>
