 Weight Training by Rob Sweet, Personal Trainer
Most of us probably learned weight-training techniques by watching friends or others in the gym. But sometimes what you see isn't safe. Incorrect weight-training techniques can lead to sprains, strains, fractures and other painful injuries that may hamper your weight-training efforts. College Educated/Certified personal trainers specialize in not only showing you what exercises to do, but how to do them correctly to maximize your benefits.
When you are doing any exercise incorrectly, it sends the wrong kind of message to the body. This message gets stored in the body's memory and the wrong form can become a hard habit to break. When we weight train, controlled movements should always be used. Also, it is not a sign of weakness if a weight is too heavy for you to move with strict form. If you have to decrease the weight in order to lift it correctly, your muscles will respond more effectively than if you have to swing the weight up or use quick, momentum-derived movements to complete the exercise.

Congratulations to Fitness Plus client, Holly Wiedemann (president and owner of AU Associates), on the completion of her most recent project, the First Presbyterian Church Apartments. Her dedication to urban renewal has preserved the beauty of the Gratz Park area and provided much needed affordable housing to Lexingtonians. The dedication was held July 23 and an open house was held for the public to tour the apartments.

 Greetings to all,
As all of the arguments are swirling around about the future of our healthcare system, it only becomes clearer to me how important it is to take charge of your own health, as much as possible. Whatever the outcome of our current debate and whatever the future of healthcare holds, you will be less affected if you stay fit and healthy, thereby reducing your need to be involved in the system at all. Keeping your personal healthcare needs and thereby costs low, you will always be in a better position than those who have more needs, and higher costs.
A study released last week noted that the actual cost of obesity is an average of $1500.00 per year, per person. Insurance companies will pay attention to this. They will realize an obese 20 year-old can cost $45,000.00 MORE in healthcare costs by the time they reach the age of 50 and they will charge accordingly. Feel good that you are already ahead of the curve: working out, managing your weight, maintaining your independence, and keeping your healthcare needs and costs low.
