A Healthy Home by Jessica Ray, Exercise Specialist
Here's a thought, "If you don't have your health, where are you going to live?" Our bodies are our homes. Just like your home, you want to keep it clean, decorate it so it looks attractive, build equity, remodel when things need repaired--our bodies are just the same! By including a healthy diet, physical activity, and self-care your body will build strength, be healthy, look and feel better, and most importantly live a vital and productive life.
Eating a healthy diet has a lot of power in determining your health's future. You can reduce risk for stroke and other cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, and certain cancers. Our bones provide our body its framework just like a house.
Exercising unfortunately takes a backseat since it takes time and effort. Did you know that exercising 30 minutes a day will help you manage your weight, improve your mood, combat chronic diseases, strengthen your heart and lungs, help you sleep better, and even put the spark back into your sex life? All of these benefits contribute to your body's happy home and the effort put fourth will absolutely benefit you in many ways.
The finishing touches you want your body to have to complete its healthy home are self-care techniques. Think of this like insurance, you want your home to have good value and policy in case of a disaster. It's important to get routine checkups that will prevent illnesses. Stress is an unhealthy behavior that takes a toll on your health as well. Practice acceptance, self-talk, and relaxation techniques so your body's home is harmonious.

Greetings!
Wow, it has been a busy spring and looks like we will continue
into the summer. In May, Fitness Plus was an official sponsor of the
First Annual "Girls On The Run" 5K walk/run. Fitness Plus trainers
Jessica Ray and Laura Coombs attended the race to help participants and
to introduce their new HIPKids program. This program is designed to
help children become healthier through fun physical activity,
nutritious eating, and building a positive self image. The program is
for kids 6 to 12. It is offered privately or in groups. For more
information, please call the Fitness Plus Office (269-9280).
Next Wednesday, June 10th, Fitness Plus Versailles will have its
official ribbon cutting ceremony. It will be at 12:00 p.m. at our
location at 209 N. Main Street.
Fitness Plus will also be an official sponsor of the Hartland Kids
Triathlon, being held on Saturday, June 27th at 9:00 am at the Hartland
clubhouse. More information is available at website: http://www.hsdt.org/triathlon.htm.
Remember, Fitness Plus now offers private Tai Chi lessons. David
Cubine, a 32 year Zen Master, is now offering his services at Fitness
Plus. Tai Chi is a great way to work on your balance, posture, and body
awareness. He would be happy to give you a free consultation or
introduction to Tai Chi, so you can see if it could be something that
would be a positive addition to your wellness. He can be reached at
396-8693.
Enjoy your summer; work hard, play hard.

By Shawn Vint
Vitamins and minerals...we link the two words together as if they were synonymous, serving similar functions with a purpose to make us well. They are in fact quite different, and by understanding the role of each along with their sources and functions, you will better understand the role of nutrition and supplementation in a wellness lifestyle.
