Parents: "The Role Model"

In the United States, Childhood obesity continues to grow at an alarming rate.  Childhood obesity increased from 5 percent in 1964 to about 13 percent in 1994, but today it has increased to approximately 20 percent.  Studies show a child who is obese between the ages of 10-13 years has an 80 percent chance of becoming an obese adult.  This is where parents need to remember the most important rule--they are their child's role model.

Parents can help eliminate childhood obesity by setting great examples and insisting on healthy lifestyle habits such as proper nutrition and physical activity.  Parents can make simple choices such as making better food selections by eating less fatty foods; avoiding junk/fast foods; increasing physical activity, especially walking; eating meals as a family instead of watching television or playing videogames; and avoiding using food as a reward. By making healthy eating choices and creating regular exercise programs, childhood obesity can be eliminated.

Greetings!

Thank you for signing up for the Fitness Plus e-Newsletter. My goal of this newsletter is to provide a forum to deliver a variety of useful information. In each issue you will find general "what's happening" information from me; tips and articles on the topics of fitness, nutrition, golf, and health; a feature article by one of the Fitness Plus trainers; and some links to websites I have researched and found quite useful. You will also find a "client spotlight", that will be used to communicate milestones, happenings, or significant events that some of you have experienced and are appropriate to share. Please feel free to give us suggestions for this newsletter content or communicate to us the people or events that you would like to see mentioned in our "client spotlight".

This is the perfect time to launch our e-Newsletter, as there is a lot happening with Fitness Plus at the moment:

  • First, Fitness Plus is opening a NEW PERSONAL TRAINING STUDIO in downtown Versailles. Set to open in mid-April, this studio will be inside Thoroughbred Square, at the corner of Main and Green Streets. This is a small, well-equipped studio designed to train 1-3 clients at a time.
  • Fitness Plus has also collaborated with a new, beautiful, mid-size gym called Wildcat Fitness. This facility is located in the Hartland Village Shopping Center. Fitness Plus will be the provider of personal training services for Wildcat Fitness members. Any current Fitness Plus client can workout with their trainer at this facility, provided you join Wildcat Fitness for $25.00 a month. If you are interested in learning more about Wildcat Fitness, we will be holding an OPEN HOUSE, at Wildcat on Saturday, April 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be food and drink, drawings for free stuff, and games for the kids.
  • Fitness Plus is launching the new HIP KIDS program. Fitness Plus trainers Jessica Ray and Laura Cooms have designed this program. It is geared toward children between the ages of 6 and 12. It is a well-rounded program designed to give your children the tools they need to get on a path toward lifelong health. There are fliers in the gym that have more information about the program or you can contact Laura or Jessica directly.
  • There will be a TRUNK SHOW of Anatomie women's fitness wear at the Ashland Avenue studio, Monday, April 17 - Wednesday, April 29. Anatomie distributor Angela will have this beautiful line of workout wear on display in the Fitness Plus lobby and trainer lounge area. No appointments necessary, just stop by and check it out. This line of exercise wear includes styles that are appropriate for all ages.

Please explore the newsletter, its links and other information provided. I hope you find this a useful tool to help you stay on the path of health and wellness. Have a great April.

Playing shots out of the deep rough is difficult for every player that plays the game. Even when you watch the British Open sometimes you see players that are having a hard time just getting the ball back to the fairway.  Watch the video from Golflink.com>>

From Duke Diet & Fitness

If you smoke cigarettes or use other tobacco products, you no doubt have heard of the risk they pose to your health. Smokers face an increased risk of premature death and disability from heart attack, lung cancer, lung diseases like chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and stroke, among other ills. Being overweight also increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, creating a health-risk double whammy when smoking and overweight are combined. But no matter how long you have been a smoker, it's never too late to quit and start reversing the damage tobacco use can cause.  Read more from Dukediet.com>>
