Greetings!

You are receiving this limited distribution email because you have indicated an interest in hunting and hunting related topics.

This publication is entirely dependent upon contributions by the readers and their clubs. I do not have time to search for news and events, that part is up to you.  If you don't see your club's hunter safety course or hunter sight-in, etc., it simply means that the information was not submitted for publication.

Please feel free to submit "copy ready" articles and digital photographs for publication. The topics should be hunting related and are certainly not limited to the following suggestions:

  • Hunting rifles and sights
  • Hunting gear and equipment
  • Your favorite handloads for hunting
  • Fireside hunting stories, (usually beginning with the claim "this is a really true story...")
  • Safety tips
  • Strange things you have seen or experienced while hunting
  • True "This happened to me adventures" of the type that we have all experienced and somehow lived to tell the tale

Best regards,

JHJ

Managed Deer Hunting - DNR Qualification Card Program

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) facilitates the Shooter Qualification Program. Through this program local sportsman's clubs, shooting clubs, and other groups avail their facilities and expertise to certify hunters. Those hunters, who meet certain shooting qualification standards, become certified and receive a Maryland State Shooter Qualification Card valid for the current year. This card serves as "proof of proficiency" and enables a qualified hunter to be eligible to apply for many of the managed deer hunts on public land held across Maryland.

The Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore is a participating facility.

Contact a
Range Safety Officer at 410-461-8532.

Cost:  Members: $7     Non-members:  $10

With the earthquake and power outages because of the hurricane, you may have understandably forgotten to apply for this year's Maryland Black Bear Lottery. It's not too late! Or you may have it added to your "bucket list." Could you be one of the winners this year?

You may still apply through this Friday, September 2, @ 11:59 p.m. If you can't participate in the hunt this year, you may want to purchase a preference point to increase your odds for next year.

Applications issued will be valid for this year's black bear hunting season, which will take place October 24 through October 29.

APPLY ONLINE NOW! Go to: http://blackbear.dnr.state.md.us/

Read what last year's hunters had to say: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/BearHunt_Testimonials.asp

See photos from prior hunts: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/BearHunt_Photos.asp (Later this year, it could be you in one of those photos).

If you have never hunted black bear before, DNR has created a content area for everything Maryland Black Bear (including videos, photos, how-to information), visit our online resource: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/BlackBearGuide.asp

If you do not wish to receive these emails from Maryland DNR please respond and put "REMOVE" in the subject field. If you have already applied for the lottery, we thank you and apologize for this email. We just didn't want you to miss out. Happy Hunting in 2011!

This will be the last email you will receive regarding this years Black Bear Program, unless you applied for the lottery. We will email you on September 6 after the winners are selected. We only re-emailed as the earthquake and hurricane affected many sportsmen and they said they forgot or never received communication from us.
