Greetings!
I tooke a little time off from the newsletter, as you will learn in this newsletter I have been quite busy! I am happy to back to share fantastic music with you all! Urban Music Presents has some tremendous shows happening throughout the month of December starting with this Tuesday at Yoshi's Oakland with The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol, "Carolizing Christmas" featuring Marco Casasola, Marcus Shelby and Howard Wiley! No one can deliver the spirit of the holidays like Miss Faye! I have a chance to win tickets below, so see details!
Other extraordinary shows this week also at Yoshi's - in San Francisco the Legendary Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, celebrating his 75th Birthday! Mr. Palmieri is a not to miss artist - he goes on my list of the true greats of our time! Lucky for you I have a chance to win tickets so see below for details!
Over at Yoshi's Oakland, a truly phenomenal R&B and Jazz vocalist, Lalah Hathaway! What a treat for us as she granted Urban Music Presents an interview with Dr. Wes Watkins! I have excerpt below along with a change to win tickets... To read entire interview please click here!
Saturday night, December 3 at the Brava Theater, Accion Latina Presents: 30th Encuentro del Canto Popluar featuring The John Santos Sextet, Grupo Raiz, and Los Peludos! This event is a fundraiser to support El Tecolote Newspaper located in heart of the Mission District! A proud sponsor is Paula Tejeda, owner of Chile Lindo Empanadas! I swear on my life, Paula makes the best empanadas I have ever had, visit her at 16th and Capp Street and see for yourself! TO PURCHASE TICKETS CLICK HERE
I have several other shows listed here, and you will see quite a few at George's Nightclub as I am very excited to announce that I will regularly be bringing shows to this beautiful venue at 842 4th Street in San Rafael which features amazing sound, a great dance floor, cabaret seating, full menu and full bars! Of course I will continue to present music around the Bay as I do, but I am very lucky as in January I will be presenting regularly Jazz at Georges, every 1st and 3rd Thursday, so be sure to check these shows out and thank you for supporting LIVE MUSIC!
Lastly, I am sad to share that the Creative Music Emporium at 26 Mission in the Excelsior is closing their doors after 26 years, and December 31st will be their last day open. Owned by Joe and Elba Lambert, they are inviting the community to come in and purchase whatever you see for exceptional deals. Folks, they simply don't make record and music stores like this anymore! I feel bad that I did not know of it earlier, as I assure you I would have lived there, but I only learned of this true San Francisco gem a few weeks ago. I felt I was in a magic place, with the fantastic posters, incredible recordings all around and the charm and kindness of Joe and Elba, who truly did this for the love! Here is a write up about the history of their music store by their friend Justin Torres who eloquently tells their tale. I do hope you can make it by, even if it is to just simply shake their hand and thank them for their extraordinary contribution to the community.
Once again I will remind everyone to support the International Boycott of the GRAMMY Telecast and their Sponsors and to sign or ask a friend to sign the petition (no donation necessary to register signature) asking for the 31 categories to be reinstated for GRAMMY consideration. For more up to date information please visit www.grammywatch.org.
Thank you for supporting LIVE MUSIC and the MUSICIANS who bring the music to you! Urban Music Presents believes music grows community and believes our community is only as strong as we give to it.
Peace through music,
Stephanie
