Greetings!
Some Urban Music news to report. The Best of Roots series has canceled at the Berkeley Art House due to licensing issues... but the fabulous news I have been asked to present a JAZZ series and some one off shows at the beautiful venue George's Nightclub in San Rafael! This is state of the art venue, amazing sound, good food and a great vibe. I have started booking my shows which will begin in December, so be sure to check out my calendar listings and thanks George's for believing in my work!
Well the world is moving in force since the last time I wrote and I just want to send a SHOUT OUT to the OCCUPIERS and thank you for your determination and integrity to move on your beliefs! I have been attending, not as much as I would like, but every time I am amazed, my spirit lifted and I FULLY 100% believe we are going in the right direction. Perhaps the high unemployment is giving people time to really think and to respond to what is incredibly unfair and now have time to do something.
I must share with you what I learned last night. My office is in the Mission District of San Franciso, I moved to the Bay Area 16 years ago, not to change it, but to become a part of it and to contribute however I could. Last night I met up with two friends to grab dinner at Charanga www.charangasf.com at 2351 Mission and 20th, to learn they have been forced to close their doors, after 13 years because the landlord (Del-Camp Investments Inc) refuses to reup their lease because the building next year will be 100 years old, and will be considered a historic landmark and therefore cannot be torn down and so he is evicting his tenants so he can build condos. I have since written a letter to Supervisor David Campos and a sundrie of City and Neighborhood citizens in hopes something can happen to stave off this action. AT THE VERY LEAST, I believe the community of Mission District Businesses and Neighbors need to rally around this small business and protest and occupy in front of Charanga, we need to occupy in our lives and communities! I am hoping larger city press writes about this and that you all go out and tell your friends as this could happen just as easily to you or your neighbor. A question to ponder, what would Paris, Rome or London be like if they sold off their historical treasures to the highest bidder... their has to be a balance of ethics and wealth...onward to music as that is my medicine for all the madness we encounter daily.
