ron stallings in cuba teaching

Ron Stallings Teaching.

Compliments of Susan Marchionna

Stallings who wishes to celebrate his memory by asking you to support Horns to Havana, established by a group of musicians from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra after they visited Havana in October 2010. These musicians, led by Carlos Henriquez, distinguished bassist for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, are rallying to take instruments to schools in Havana, where clinics, workshops, and instrument repairs will also take place.

These organizations and individuals are coming together to provide instruments to the four schools in Cuba: Escuela Nacional de Arte (La ENA), Manuel Samuel Conservatory, Amadeo Roldan Conservatory and Guillermo Tomas Bouffaratigue Music Conservatory.

"...Weeks after they had returned home, the band members were still talking about the love and respect that Cubans have for their musicians, dancers, and performing artists. But they also saw gifted students without instruments...In Havana, in even the best schools, there are not nearly enough working instruments for the young people who want to learn to play." ~ Carlos Henriquez, Bassist for Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

Working under the umbrella of the Center for Cuban Studies   in New York, the Horns to Havana committee and partnering organizations, such as PlazaCUBA, plan to raise enough money to fly a full planeload of instruments to Havana. The four designated schools will be the recipients of these instruments.

After Ron Stallings' passing, Ms. Marchionna put together a 2 CD compilation, "Remembering Rev" of rembering rev cd cover recordings he did with artists that include: John Santos and The Machete Ensemble, John Calloway, Tanaora, Wayne Wallace, and many others. Susan has offered a CD as a thank you for every donation. Please enclose your mailing address to receive the CD.

"Because this is a project that I know Ron would wholeheartedly support, it is in his memory that I am donating my time and funds. I am joining with the Bay Area organization, PlazaCUBA, and Horns to Havana to raise jazz orchestras in Cuba." ~ Susan Marchionna
