Goodbye summer, welcome fall!

Greetings!
In these final days of summer we've taken some time to enjoy the remnants of the warm weather and in doing so, have been lucky enough to explore first hand some of the unique offerings that abound in our community, the little things that make living here so downright charming. This issue is a reflection on what surrounds us, and why this truly is a bountiful land. We hope that you too, will take some time and enjoy the last vestiges of summer, and what better place to do it than by visiting us here at the firefly?

This bountiful Earth

Oh what springs forth from a small patch of earth!  The firefly garden is in fully production, and what a harvest we are reaping!  It's a tantalizing sight - a rainbow of color across the patch, vegetables of all shapes and sizes amid a tangle of green.  Plants twisting this way and that, boughs bending heavily, laden with fruit.  The smell of rosemary and mint envelopes us as we brush past each day, examining each and every plant to see what beckons us for the day's menu.

Kristie's heirloom tomatoes - Brandywine, Zebra, Green Zebra, Chocolates and cherries, have graced our menus since mid-summer and will continue into fall.  We're now serving them in a variety of dishes, including our delectable Caprese Sandwich - ripe tomatoes with three types of basil, balsamic vinaigrette, fresh mozzarella, served on a crispy baguette fresh - it's absolutely delicious!

About the only thing we don't grow in our garden is corn, and that is because we know that no one can surpass the sweetness of Schottman's.  That's why the firefly serves only Schottman's sweet corn, known as the best in the area. We prepurchase it so you'll rarely see a "sold-out" sign here!  Come and get it before it's gone.
