Stressbusters
The Stressbusters program at St. David's Center helps children ages 7 to 12 identify their worries and begin to learn through guided activities to master them. The 10-week program includes a combination of relaxation and self-esteem building techniques to temper stress. Parents attend a workshop and receive a progress report, including information on how to use the techniques at home.

Spring
2009
Greetings!

We hope you had a great winter and were able to find activities to keep the kids busy and active.

My husband Jon and I have one son, Zach, who attended the Early Childhood Education program at St David's Center for several years before going to elementary school at Deephaven Elementary. Zach is currently enrolled in all-day Spanish Immersion Kindergarten and he loves it! We attribute much of Zach's current success to St. David's Center.

When Zach was about 3 1/2, his teacher mentioned to us that she observed some behaviors in Zach that could be interpreted as "sensory-related" issues. She explained that Zach was a "sensory seeker," always looking for stimulation either orally, physically or verbally. After the staff at St. David's Center formally observed and evaluated Zach, we enrolled him in the occupational therapy program; Zach received the help he needed and the in-class support necessary for him to be successful. While his need was relatively minor, we believe that if he had been attending a different preschool, his needs would have gone undiagnosed and most likely would have been labeled disruptive.

Because the staff at St. David's Center is well-trained and tuned-in to the individual needs of the students, Zach got the help he needed.

I continue to stay involved with St. David's Center because I believe in its mission and want to support the organization that truly made a difference to our family. I hope to connect with many, if not all of you, again soon.

Giving Back to St. David's Center
Sprenkle FamilyFor Pediatrician Trudie Sprenkle, St. David's Center, "was much more than just a daycare experience," for her two children: Caroline, who's now in second grade; and Reid, who is currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program at St. David's Center.

"Without St. David's Center, I would have had a harder time balancing my career as a part-time pediatrician and family life," explains Trudie. "I felt confident that my children would have a good experience at St. David's Center during the times when I needed to be away from them."
Alumni Parents Party at the GalaAlumni at the Gala
More than 370 people gathered at the Sofitel on March 14 to celebrate St. David's Center. The event, which sold out for the first time ever (and three weeks in advance), recognized Legendary Sports Columnist and St. David's Center Grandparent Sid Hartman, as the Honorary Chair.

Thanks to the generosity of our Gala sponsors, guests and volunteers, we exceeded expectations and our fundraising goal.

St. David's Center Logo In March, St. David's Child Development & Family Services officially became St. David's Center for Child and Family Development. With the new name, came a new logo and tagline: Embrace. Enrich. Empower.

Although our name and look changed to better align with our mission and strategic growth plan, our commitment to families remains the same: Embrace each individual's uniqueness; Enrich our community through opportunities; and Empower children and families to thrive.
