Hot ClubsArt Camp in the Summertime
The Early Childhood Program offers Summer Clubs to enhance the existing classroom curriculum including Art, Literature & Imagination, Music & Movement, Science & Nature, and Sports & Games.

In Art Camp, the children made beautiful wooden sculptures using buttons, bows, glue, and of course, wood! Some creations stood high resembling mighty towers, others were delicately detailed with pink and purple adornments - but every sculpture was crafted with imagination and creativity.

The Science & Nature Camp discovered lots of "zero-legged" creatures living near Minnehaha Creek, including a few species of snails, dragonfly nymphs, leeches, a freshwater mussel, crayfish and other aquatic insects. They also spotted a beautiful painted turtle coming back to the creek after laying her eggs nearby.

There are many more adventures to be had in Summer Clubs before the new school year begins in just a few weeks!
'Emotionally Responsive' Workshop Draws Hundreds
On August 4, St. David's hosted a workshop on "Emotionally Responsive Practice in the Classroom" for over 300 childhood educators, social workers and therapists.

Conducted by nationally-known children's mental health expert, Lesley Koplow, MS, ACSW, the workshop provided insight on finding common ground between education and mental health, understanding attachment and emotional development to guide classroom curriculum and the healing role of teachers.

Many found the workshop informative and inspiring. One attendee commented, "It was well worth a summer morning...terrific presentation."

This workshop was supported by the Mandy Overton Endowment and held in partnership with the University of Minnesota's Center for Early Education & Development and Washburn Center for Children.
