Greetings!
It was 22 years ago that I enrolled my oldest daughter Carrie in the Early Childhood Education program at St. David's Center, based on the recommendation of an educator neighbor. Preschool was new to me, but the warm and delightful classroom bustle assured me that this was the right place to be. Carrie thrived and continued through the program until kindergarten. Her sister, Katie, started at age two while I was working part-time. She used to sit in the back of the room and grunt angrily through her pacifier because I had deserted her. I thought for sure that she would be kicked out of school, but the teacher eventually adjusted her to my absence and involved her in activities. I appreciated her patience! When Carrie was eight years old, she became seriously ill and it took the doctors two years to diagnose a rare autoimmune disease. I was frantic during this time and turned to St. David's Center, where they graciously let me volunteer to promote the first symposium with parenting expert T. Berry Brazelton. The positive focus of this work helped me control my fears. When the diagnosis came, everyone from St. David's Center was there to support my Carrie and me.
