Welcome to Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue
Greetings!
Thank you once again to everyone who took the time to answer our 2010 survey recently. Your responses have given us some really useful feedback and we'd like to share some of that with you in this newsletter.
And congratulations to the prize draw winner, who along with her colleagues chose to donate £500 to Help For Heroes rather than receiving an iPad. See the cheque and thank you here ... and click on it twice to view the letter.
Finally it's not too late for you to let us know how we can further improve our services for you. Just drop me an email - your thoughts will be very much appreciated.
Thanks again for all your comments.
Kind regards Mike Glaire

Improving the Venue for You You've given us several suggestions as to how we can improve the venue for you and we're going to focus on those three key areas in this newsletter ... chairs, catering and signage, as well as highlighting for you our general refurbishment program.
Chairs Our 2009 survey highlighted several requests from you for adjustable chairs with better support. And we did mention in May's newsletter that we had already decided on a style for some new chairs, with help from 20 regular instructors.
Well you'll be pleased to hear that we're already half way through the task of replacing the old chairs ... More...

Glasgow space
It's clear that quite a number of you have requirements for training and conference room space in Glasgow. And as a direct result of your feedback we are now exploring opportunities to see how Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue could deliver a similar service to you in Glasgow. In fact we expect to have limited space available in Glasgow in the new year. This space will initially be for PC courses, but we will keep you up-to-date as things progress. |
Newsletter requests
Your responses overwhelmingly voted for the newsletter to be on a quarterly basis rather than more frequently, so consider that a decision! And you've said that you'd like the newsletter to focus on three areas ... 1. Articles relating to Learning and Development, 2. News about developments in the venue, 3. The use of technology in training You've also said you'd like to see exclusive offers! And some of you have expressed interest in a few of the other suggestions. So in response we're going to work on delivering what you've asked for. In due course you'll have to let us know if we're on the right tracks!

Good news on budgets?
In gauging the general position on your training event and meetings budgets, we are delighted to report a more positive trend than found in the CIPD's benchmarking survey done earlier this year! Firstly, the number of you forecasting an increase in budgets next year is exactly the same as found in the CIPD survey, at one in ten. BUT, whilst the CIPD reports that 52% of organisations across the UK are expecting their budgets to fall next year, this figure drops significantly to 31% in our survey! So although budgets are clearly on a very tight lead, we should take comfort in being seemingly less affected than the wider UK! The last few months have been exceptionally busy at the centre, for example last week we had every room filled three days running. Advance bookings for next year are at their highest level ever, so it will be interesting to see how things develop. |

Chairs
Our 2009 survey highlighted several requests from you for adjustable chairs with better support. And we did mention in May's newsletter that we had already decided on a style for some new chairs, with help from 20 regular instructors. Well you'll be pleased to hear that we're already half way through the task of replacing the old chairs and aim to have most courses using the new chairs by the start of 2011. The only exceptions will be larger groups and events where the new chairs are too bulky. If you haven't already experienced them, you can look forward to enjoying an office chair on wheels, fully adjustable, with extremely good lower back support. Comments so far include ... "really comfortable, great support" "very easy to adjust" "can I take one of these back to my office?" Please tell us what you think of the chairs next time you come in!
Catering Providing a lunch to suit everybody's requirements is probably our biggest challenge! We got more feedback and suggestions from you in the recent survey, which we're starting to implement already. Indeed over the last few months we've made numerous small changes to the lunches and I thought it might be helpful to explain where we are. Our mission with lunch is to provide each delegate and leader with a lunch that delights them. We do this by providing a seasonal lunch menu based on a three week cycle. People can also mix and match this with pre-ordered items like jacket potatoes, salads and sandwiches with a variety of breads. This gives the option of two starters or home made soup, two hot main courses (one vegetarian) or over 100 pre-ordered options. And then to follow, you have a choice of two deserts, fresh fruit salad, cheese and biscuits or yoghurt. Following on from suggestions received, pre-ordered items can now be ordered as small, medium or large and we've started to portion the hot courses to suit each delegate. We're also looking to produce a greater variety of fillings, possibly with a 'daily special'. The next step is to improve the standard and quality of all menu items for you, so watch this space!!!
Signage
Signage got a mention yet again. It's always a challenge with signage, you want enough so that everybody can find their way around the building, but not too much or you get the look of a busy traffic junction :-).
The new signage includes a 3D graphic of the building to show exactly where you are, however we've also tweaked the new signage a little by adding two extra signs. If you feel we need to make any further specific changes please let us know, "If we Can we Will".
General refurbishment program
Our general refurbishment program continues, with incremental improvements made to the venue on a monthly basis. Just in the last month, blinds have been replaced, upgrades to the projectors have been completed and new mugs have been brought in that are harder to spill! There is a rolling program of refurbishment for the venue and we are constantly revisiting the priorities for this program. As always, please let us know if you feel we're missing something that's a priority for you!
