Greetings!
Greetings and happy holidays from all of us at The Getting2Tri Foundation. It's been quite a year full of amazing accomplishments and countless stories of courage.
At G2T, we continue to see a steady demand for providing opportunities to individuals with disabilities through sports. To that end, G2T is increasingly in program development mode. In this edition of the G2T eNewsletter, you'll not only read about some individual accomplishments, but you'll also discover our vision to meet the growing demands.
In the spirit of the holiday season, we hope you will consider continuing to support the Foundation as you have in the past. We've tried to create some unique and fun ways to "give back" to Getting2Tri. See below how you can help us not only reach our planned budget for 2010 but also build the necessary fiscal momentum for some great programs in 2011.
Enjoy this edition of the G2T eNewsletter!

| Creative Ways to Support G2T |

It's been a fantastic year at Getting2Tri and we continue to need your generous contributions to keep our programs going on for 2011 and beyond. To give of your "time, talents and treasures", we've created some unique and fun ways to help us reach our fiscal needs and programming goals. CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY TO G2T's OPERATING CAMPAIGN:The G2T Operating Campaign raises resources to support on-going programming. The Operating Campaign is critical to keeping the organization functioning throughout the year and serves as the basis for planning and executing world-class programs. These on-going programs vary from year to year, but can include activities such as: -Logistical support for camps and clinics -Foundation administration such as office rent, staff salaries, insurance, accounting, utilities, etc. -Travel stipend for volunteers and/or staff members in support of the foundation's mission -Maintenance of G2T online knowledge resources to keep information current and accurate -Education and research activities -Continued planning for the G2T Sports Institute
CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY TO G2T's GRANT FUND:The G2T Grant Fund raises resources specifically for these athletes in sports-related activities. Support may vary from person to person, but might include requests such as: -Competition equipment (handcycle, bicycle, wetsuit, etc.) -Travel support for participation in a specific race -Resources to support training activities (training evaluations, on-line coaching, etc.) -Scholarship to attend the national or regional paratriathlon training camp(s) or youth camp(s) -Travel allowance when participating in activities in support of G2T (speaking engagements, race support, etc.) -Others as approved by the Foundation
BECOME A G2T AMBASSADOR:Consider becoming a G2T Ambassador today. G2T Ambassadors are role models within the endurance sports community, race to raise awareness / resources to support our mission, and become personally involved through service to an individual with a disability.
Thank you for all your continued support! |
| Athlete Accolades |
Every year, we get to meet and work with many, many heroes! It's the most exciting part of "doing what we do"! We are PROUD of each and every individual. Here are a few we'd like to highlight from their accomplishments this year. CONGRATULATIONS to all! JASON GUNTERFinisher IM Cozumel November, 2010 Many of you will remember Jason's efforts at the 2009 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Jason came up less than 3 miles short of the finish line in 2009 when his body gave out to back spasms and cramps. Ever the competitor, Jason continued a disciplined training throughout 2010. Pictured here is Jason crossing the finish line after completing 140.6 miles of swimming, cycling and running at a very HOT Ironman Cozumel this past month in 16 hrs, 16 min.
KRIGE SCHABORT
Finisher IM World Championship October, 2010
Krige Schabort is no stranger to wheelchair racing, having one just about every long distance marathon in the world. But late last year, Krige called Getting2Tri and said, "I want to race in Kona in 2010....how do I qualify?"
Krige qualified at the Buffalo Springs Lake 70.3 in the summer and then shattered the course record at Kona that had stood for many years. Look for Krige to continue to "give back" to Getting2Tri as a frequent mentor to other up and coming wheelchair athletes.
KELLY CASEBERE
Finisher Rambling Rose Tri September, 2010
First time camp attendee, Kelly, made herself a goal afterwards that she would complete a triathlon this year. We quickly learned from Kelly that there's at least two things we can always count on with her: One, she seems to permanently have a smile on her face and, two, when she sets a goal, she'll get it done!
With her camp handlers, Stacy Zotter and Jennifer Bowman (along with Stacy's kids) on-hand for moral support, Kelly finished her first tri, the Rambling Rose Sprint triathlon in September! And yes, she was smiling the entire time! |
| Planned 2011 G2T Camps |
G2T camps remain a staple of our organization. In 2011, we'll host our 4th annual National ParaTriathlon Training Camp in Atlanta, GA using world-class facilities at the Georgia Institute of Technology and surrounding recreational areas in/around Atlanta. Our longer term goal is to eventually host four annual camps, one in each region of the country. Atlanta will always host the "national camp" and will also represent the southeastern region. In 2011, we are looking to host our first-ever mid-western regional camp in Chicago. In 2012, we'll add our third camp in the northeast and a fourth camp in the southwest. Locations for the northeastern and southwestern camps are still being considered. Registration for the 2011 G2T National ParaTriathlon Training Camp will open on January 15, 2011. Space is limited to 40 campers for this world-class event. Details on the mid-western camp will be published in mid-February. Dates for the 2011 Atlanta camp are March 25-27. Also, we are very excited to launch our first camp dedicated to children with disabilities! We are currently looking at potential sites in Charlotte, NC for the first G2T Youth Camp! We are finalizing dates for the Charlotte youth camp and will publish those very soon. Youth camps will also be scheduled during the summer months when children are out of school. Depending on the success of the Charlotte youth camp, G2T may consider a second youth camp in Atlanta.
With two adult camps and possibly two youth camps in 2011, G2T will be VERY busy! For additional information: G2T ADULT camps: camps@getting2tri.org
