Happy Holidays
from all of us at United Way of Genesee County |
|
Live United means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community, working together to create a brighter future. Together, we can accomplish more than any single group can on its own. Advancing the common good means creating opportunities for a better life for all. When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable and when people have good health. These results/changes have benefits that have a ripple effect throughout the community as a whole. |

We want to thank all who participated in our Holiday Auction. Your gift will help make the holiday's much brighter for the less fortunate families in our community. We raised $430.00 to benefit The Salvation Army, Old Newsboys and United Way of Genesee County.

Bridges to the Future - Doing Good in the Neighborhood!
Students in Bridges programs throughout Genesee County are doing their part in making this holiday season a wonderful one for local families. Anderson Elementary and Summerfield Elementary of Flint have partnered together to adopt two local families for the holiday. The Youth Advisory Councils (YACs) at both schools sponsored school-wide collections for such items as clothing, toiletries and toys, and upon the conclusion of the drive, they will deliver the collected items to Health Access.

The Atherton Middle School YAC is also making a difference by bringing holiday cheer to our soldiers in Iraq. The YAC sponsored a "Very Camo Christmas," where they collected holiday items and visited the local VFW Hall to assist in packing the boxes for shipment.

Flint Community Schools has joined United Way in collecting old cell phones for the Cellular Recycler program. The schools have set up collection boxes to receive the phones which are refurbished, resold and recycled. Every phone is valuable, ranging from $.25 to $60 depending on the make and model, and all proceeds benefit United Way. The school that collects the most phones is being rewarded by Bridges with a pizza party!

The Van Y Elementary YAC and Atherton school district sponsored a bake sale to benefit the Humane Society of Genesee County, raising $82 with their efforts. The event culminated with a tour of the facility and the opportunity to spend time with the animals.
