Live United means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community, working together to create a brighter future. Together, we can accomplish more than any single group can on its own. Advancing the common good means creating opportunities for a better life for all. When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable and when people have good health. These results/changes have benefits that have a ripple effect throughout the community as a whole. |

UNITED WAY
OF GENESEE COUNTY
2008 HOLIDAY AUCTION
United Way of Genesee County is hosting the 2nd Annual Holiday Auction to benefit Genesee County Youth through the Salvation Army and Old Newsboys. The auction will end Sunday, November 30, 2008.
Today's challenging economy has added pressure and urgency within all segments of our community. We know more and more people are reaching out for help in Genesee County. This is just one way that the community can come together to make the holidays a little better for our youth.
To visit our online auction, click here and check out what package(s) you would like to purchase to make someone's life a little more manageable during the holidays.
For more information regarding the auction, call Amy Meister at the United Way office 810.762.0855.

You Can Make a Difference
You can make a difference in a child's holiday and be a part of "what matters" in our community. Every child deserves decent meals, a warm coat, nice clothes, a clean bed of their own and a place to call home.
Christmas is a magical time for children. Yet, it can be a very lonely time for senior adults with no family, and a very stressful time for parents barely making ends meet. Our community has an alarming number of "working, under-employed" families.
With your help, we can assist struggling parents trying to create magic for their children on Christmas morning. With your help, a family can have a decent holiday meal. With your help, a senior adult will know that even though they may be alone, they are not forgotten by the community they live in.
There are many ways you can help make a difference during the holidays: by donating time, setting up worksite/church or club collections, adopt a family, child, or senior adult, or make a monetary donation. For information on how you can help during the holidays, please contact Cindy Cromwell, AFL-CIO Community Service Liaison, United Way of Genesee County at (810) 762-5827.
Together we can fulfill a child's holiday expectations. Together we can warm the heart and bring a smile to the face of a senior adult. Together we can bring a family together for a holiday meal. Together we can make a difference and "Live United". |

AFSCME COUNCIL 25 CHEFS You haven't eaten good spaghetti unless you have tasted AFSCME spaghetti. This wonderful group of men from AFSCME Council 25 is famous in the community for the fundraising dinners they cook whether for a small group or groups of hundreds. On October 15th, they cooked a spaghetti dinner at Court Street United Methodist Church to raise money for the Senior Minor Home Repair Program through Flint NIPP. Could their secret added sauce ingredients be a pinch of compassion, a dash of love, and a lot of commitment to their community?
