Greetings!
I just returned from a wonderful family vacation on Edisto Island, South Carolina. Most of our family shared a beautiful beach house and a great week! Even while I was gone all kinds of great things were happening. This Note is about our Early Care and Education department.
I can't wait for you see the quarterly Newsletter - it has a great story about one of our Community Work Support clients. And in the next Notes I want to tell you some wonderful news about one of our super supporters - Denny of Denny Ford!

EMOTIONAL BEGINNINGS
|
|
Caring, Learning, and Growing An amazing group of women just completed a very time intensive course called Emotional Beginnings Curriculum. Emotional Beginnings focus on the interaction between infants, toddlers, and caregivers to help support respectful, responsive care. Their evaluations included comments like these: "Children have limited life experience! They really often don't know what to do!" and "Not having children of my own, I learned a lot about reading an infant's cues. Of course this made my job easier."
Some providers put in additional time and work to receive college credit. One provider confessed that the text book was the first she had ever finished and asked if she could keep it for reference! What amazing women - providing childcare for ten to twelve hours a day and then spending time learning how to better care for children! Thank you!

TINA DEMONSTRATES HEALTHY CHOICES

Sixty-One Providers Last week, sixty-one providers participated in training to help increase the amount of time children spend in physical activity. As part of the Fit Phelps grant, providers received training and equipment for children to use while in their care. Equipment included a basketball set, "river rocks", balance beam, and pretend healthy food. Providers were so grateful and the kids are having a great time!
Sad to say, Tina will be leaving us at the end of the month. Her husband Kevin has accepted a position in Wisconsin. We will miss Tina but wish her and her family great joy! We have all been very lucky to work with Tina and she will be greatly missed.
