Relive the
Battlefield Encounters

between Boer, Brit and Zulu

Live through the drama of the Anglo-Boer and Anglo-Zulu wars as they unfold. Feel for the young lives lost prematurely, marvel at the bravery, feel the heat, the terror, even the homesickness of those so far from home.

Map

Whether you're an historian, a lover of history, or simply a person who thrills to great story telling, a visit to the Zululand Battlefields is an extraordinary experience. Our tour is particularly interactive, so when our specialist Battlefield Guides recount the gripping tales of these battles, you'll be right there where they happened, perhaps looking over your shoulder.

Our Battlefields tour to the sites of Isandlwana, Fugitive's Drift, Rorkes Drift and Spionkop, is not a dry history lesson.

You'll hear fascinating tales about Ghandi, even about Churchhill, but mostly you'll hear about young men without legendary names who performed legendary deeds.

This fully escorted Battlefields Tour is an unforgettable experience, enjoyed in sensational, even slightly eerie scenery, which

can easily be incorporated into your next visit to

South Africa.

Accommodation is in a country guest house with typical South African hospitality.

2 day Tour from $730

Dear fellow Travellers,

Many believe that humans only have sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch, but in truth our senses extend well beyond the 'Big 5'. There are somewhere between 9 and 21 senses - hunger and thirst are worthy contenders, and the sense of balance should also make the list.

And what about our sense of adventure?  - After all, it is the sense that is responsible for our wanderlust!

I invite you to indulge in a little sensory overload with this latest TravelBoecker newsletter.

Happy adventure of the senses!

Yours in Travel,

Volunteering, whilst touring?

I have often been asked: "Is there some way to get involved in the local communities in Africa, even just for a day or two or three?"

If you are looking for an opportunity to help out, create change, and be part of a community project during your trip to Africa, we now offer 3 unique optional day-trips as an add-on to our

Southern Cross Safari:

In Cape Town we support a local township school in Khayalitsha. This project promotes social change and activism among the most impoverished kids in the townships. Spend the day helping children in their school vegetable garden, participating in their exercise classes, or joining the group for regular story-telling.

Spreading the Smile

In Swakopmund we assist in teaching fire awareness and safety in the local township. Fire prevention has become a huge priority in this township, as fires have caused enormous damage and many tragic deaths.

 Vic Falls Rail

In Victoria Falls we promote Wildlife Conservation and anti-poaching efforts in the Zambezi National Park with the Rhino anti-poaching unit; help find snares and make a difference!

Yes - you CAN make a difference while you travel through Africa!

About Yellow Fever & more...

  • Yellow Fever inoculation required! It is now mandatory to present a valid Yellow Fever Certificate of Vaccination as proof at all points of entry into Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Even when arriving from non-endemic countries, it is highly recommended that you get vaccinated for your own safety.
  • As of October 1, all travellers arriving in South Africa from Zambia will be required to show proof of yellow fever vaccination (unless in possession of a valid waiver certificate). Travellers transiting airports in countries with risk of yellow fever transmission will also be required to show proof of yellow fever vaccination, regardless of the amount of time spent at the airport.
  • All travellers from yellow fever risk countries who are unable to produce a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at the port of entry will either be refused entry or quarantined until their certificate becomes valid, or for a period of not more than six days.

New security features by Zambian Authorities at Livingstone include finger printing and photographing every passenger that comes through the airport.

Air Canada is revising its checked baggage policy to be consistent with the baggage policies of other major airlines. For customers with an Economy Class ticket, the baggage policy is as follows:

For travel between Canada/USA and Africa, the Middle East and Russia/Asia and Australia/South America the first bag is free. A second bag fee of $70 applies.

Christine Boecker - Master Travel Manager

I've just returned from South Africa...

... it was the phone call every immigrant dreads - my father passed away after a sudden and short illness, and we were going back for the funeral.

In my 17 years of serving the South African community in Vancouver, I have sent many clients 'home' for the same reason, and every time my heart went out to you. I will always be available for that emergency call - no matter whether it's after hours or on weekends.

During my time in Johannesburg the Travel Agent in me arranged a tour of some hotels near the airport, in Melrose and in Sandton.  Morningside1

Jo'burg has some very beautiful suburbs, and Morningside is home to a fabulous 40 room luxury boutique hotel, set in a stately, park-like ambience with huge mature trees and prolific bird-life.

This well-kept secret is the perfect balance between tranquility and proximity to the centre of Sandton, between professionalism and the warm, welcoming ambience created by friendly and caring staff. Elegant enough to host European royalty, relaxed enough for one visitor to comment "a home away from home, only better".

Ask me for more information,  if this sounds like the place where you'd like to stay.

I look forward to being of service to you and your friends!

'SPREAD THE SMILE' IN AFRICA

We are happy to report that with your support we have distributed 34 soccer balls to children in Kenya and Zambia. Thank you so much for supporting this program!

Recently we received this e-mail from the program manager in London: "Will and I are both delighted that your 'Spread the Smile' program continues to keep sourcing ball orders for our Nairobi factory, and balls for children in the area, so our thanks to you once again!"

By donating locally made Soccer Balls directly to children in Africa, the 'Spread the Smile' project is designed to offer a little more joy and happiness, and to give children in Africa something to really smile about. With a £12.50 (approx. C$20) donation you can help deliver a soccer ball to children in Africa, sustain more jobs in communities in Africa and increase health awareness!

Spread the Smile

'Spread the Smile' works with a small British charitable group called Alive & Kicking. A&K's mandate is to supply locally manufactured Soccer Balls to children in Africa. Their 'stitching centers' in Kenya and Zambia employ 50-100 local disabled men and women, who stitch together balls made of local leather, produced by a local shoe manufacturer.

How can you get involved?

'Spread the Smile' makes it possible for anyone travelling to East & Central Africa to personally give a couple of Soccer Balls to children in orphanages and schools along the way. Our co-founder, Stephen has generously pledged to purchase a ball for every donation made. That way you get to give away two Soccer Balls for $20. Please ask Christine Boecker for details.

If you're not planning a trip to Africa soon, you can simply click here to make a donation online. Your ball will be distributed to a school, orphanage, refugee camp or youth project and you'll be sent information on who receives it.

The 'Spread the Smile' mission is to give children in Africa a chance to play and smile, and at the same time create job opportunities and help raise awareness of malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS and other serious disease. It's Win-Win-Win!

For more details, or to get involved please contact
