a better experience when planning for travel. Christine has been an absolute pleasure to work with.
She was extremely fast, efficient, and pleasant to deal with. There were times when we would
send off an email and would get a response just minutes later! We would
recommend her to a friend or family member in a heartbeat! In fact, we are
already planning to book with Chris again. Thanks for the great work Chris!

Discover Unspoiled
Galapagos
Visiting
the Galapagos is a very special and unique experience. Darwin's
inspiration for 'The Origin of Species', the Galapagos are home to species
found nowhere else on earth. You may find yourself stepping over snoozing seals and iguanas or watching close-up the courting rituals of Blue-footed
Boobies, albatross, or frigate birds.
A mask and snorkel reveals another exciting world;
turtles, sharks, rays and colourful reef fish are abundant and sea lions just
love to come and play! Our small yachts are ideal for low impact tourism,
getting where the cruise ships can't go and for viewing the occasional pod of
dolphins dancing in our bow wave. Small group sizes, expert guides and
excellent cuisine all help to make this a unique and magical experience.

The Wildebeest Migration is ON
The Migration appears to be early this year,
having already commenced in the Serengeti. Typically taking place between the
end of July and November, it is dubbed the 'Greatest Wildlife Show
on Earth'. The animals migrate from the short-grass plains of the Serengeti to
fresh pasture in the grasslands of the Mara, thus creating one of nature's
grandest spectacles.
Featuring over
one-and-a-half million wildebeest, accompanied by half as many zebras and
gazelles, the migration covers an 800-kilometer circuit and weaves birth, life and death into
a spectacular tapestry, which illustrates the concept of 'the survival of the
fittest' in all of its tragic, comic, violent and awesome splendour.
Moving in groups of up to 20,000 at a time they thunder across the
plateau, hesitating only briefly to cross the Mara River, where many fall prey
to the waiting crocodiles. Towards the end of October they begin crossing back
into Tanzania.
Did you know ... that the migration is a comparatively
recent phenomenon? Prior to 1969 only a few wildebeest spilled over from the
Serengeti, and only in exceptionally dry years.

'SPREAD
THE SMILE' IN AFRICA

"The one thing that always makes African
children smile is a good game of what we call soccer and they call football"
says Stephen Allison, East African ex-pat and co-founder of the 'Spread the Smile' project.
Generally,
Africa is not in great shape these days. We hear all the time about floods,
droughts and disease up and down the continent. That being said, the children
of Africa always seem to have the capacity to smile - even in times of
adversity.
By
donating Fair Trade Soccer Balls directly to children in Africa, the 'Spread the Smile' project is designed
to offer a little more joy and happiness, and to give children in Africa
something to really smile about. With a £12.50
(approx. C$20) donation you can help deliver a soccer ball to children in
Africa, sustain more jobs in communities in Africa and increase health
awareness!
'Spread the Smile' works
with a small British charitable group called Alive & Kicking. A&K's mandate
is to supply Fair Trade Soccer Balls to children in Africa. Their 'stitching
centers' in Kenya and Zambia employ 50-100 local disabled men and women, who
stitch together balls made of local leather, produced by a local shoe
manufacturer. The balls are imprinted with health awareness messages, and are
often used in tournaments, combined with health screening.
How can you get involved? 'Spread the Smile' makes
it possible for anyone travelling to East & Central Africa to personally
give a couple of Fair Trade Soccer Balls to children in orphanages and schools
along the way. Our co-founder, Stephen has generously pledged to purchase a
ball for every donation made. That way you get to give away two Fair Trade
Soccer Balls for $20. Please ask Chris Boecker for details.
If
you're not planning a trip to Africa soon, you can simply click on www.aliveandkicking.org.uk to
make a donation online. Your ball will be distributed to a school, orphanage,
refugee camp or youth project and you'll be sent information on who receives
it.
The
'Spread the Smile' mission is to give
children in Africa a chance to play and smile, and at the same time create job
opportunities and help raise awareness of malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS and other
serious disease. It's Win-Win-Win! |
