A Notable Night
Family and community members are invited to spend an hour with notable and eminent people from all walks of life and career fields. A number of famous (and perhaps some not quite so famous) will visit the Scholars' Academy on Tuesday evening, December 13 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to talk with important writers, politicians, mathematicians, artists, scientists, humanitarians, athletes, media figures, and business men and women. Come prepared to ask questions about the life and times, experiences and challenges, and rewards and heartbreaks of Condoleeza Rice, Thomas Jefferson, Coco Chanel, John Wesley Powell, Muhammed Ali, Mary Queen of Scots, and Kublai Khan.
Mrs. Metcalf's class and Mrs. Weeks's classes are famous North Carolinians. Mrs. Moschel's class and Mrs. Bernard's class are famous Egyptian gods and goddesses. Mrs. Surrett's class members are characters from novels that they wrote themselves. Mrs. Demming's class and Mrs. Dey's classes are characters from their favorite books. Mrs. Cleary/Anaya's students will have you on a ride with them on The Polar Express.
The Night of the Notables is a showcase of our curricular efforts in language arts and social studies with a focus on biographical research. Come prepared to ask questions and be enlightened about some outstanding people from the past and in the present.
The holiday season is a special time for all of our families. Many travel great distances to share time with loved ones and friends. The season is also marked by letters from friends we hear from once a year, gift giving, and sometimes cold weather. I respectfully request that in lieu of gifts to me, our generous families make a donation in my name to Catawba Lands Conservancy, 105 West Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202-1877 or another non-profit of your choice. Have a wonderful holiday.
For the earth,
Marie Peine, Ph.D., Director

Scholars' Library Adds
Tracking Tool and More Books
Are you having trouble keeping track of the books your K-5 student has checked out from the Scholars' Academy Library? If so, we have a new tool that should help you! Each week, we will be sending out a circulation summary via e-mail.
This e-mail will provide you with a listing of the items your child has checked out from our library and when each item is due. E-mails will only be sent out to children who currently have items checked out from the library.
If you have a spam filter, please add both scholarsacademylibrary@gmail.com AND noreply@libraryworld.com to your approved list in order to receive these e-mails. Problems or questions, please e-mail scholarsacademylibrary@gmail.com.
Thanks again to all of the families who supported the library through the Scholastic sale. We received approximately 80 library bound books this week - all purchased with the proceeds from this sale. The books cover non-fiction topics such as animals, physical science, insects, great artists, author biographies, and more. We also received a few popular fiction titles. Look for them in our library collection soon!
