Scan, Text, Email, Blog, Twitter - just VOTE!

Encourage everyone you know - and even branch out to folks you don't to help do what it takes to get this done and bring home some Clorox funding for our school program. "Power A Bright Future" funding is marked for improvements to the lighting and sound system on our stage. As it is currently configured, we need to do significant modifications to the stage area in order to present our school musical. The funding from the Clorox grant initiative would make the stage more usable in the manner in which it was designed.

Operating from the philosophy that the school program should, at a minimum, provide as authentic an experience in any endeavor as possible, the enhanced stage area would provide more realistic experiences for our musical groups, band chorus, and strings, and create new opportunities for experiences in Reader's Theatre, storytelling, and a myriad of other experiences that can come from the minds of gifted children and their teachers. Let's get this done!

Admissions

The official first event of the 2012-2013 admissions year was held Saturday at the school with our Admissions Open House. We had a full house of prospective families who came to learn about our school and program. Thank you to the parents and staff who were on hand to share their perspectives and experiences. Our most effective ambassadors for the school are our current families. More often than not, "I heard about the school from my neighbor, or my sister, or someone I work with" is the common introductory statement from an interested parent.

There are several misunderstandings about the admissions process and criteria that seem to persist over the years. If you have any questions about admissions, please do not hesitate to contact me or Ms. Cuneo so that we can make sure that the information families hear is accurate. Thank you to everyone who is a spokesperson about our school.

A New Look

The next time you are at school, glance up toward the ceiling of the gym. In true scholastic style, we have banners hanging representing our years an an Honor School of Excellence. Our school honor plaques are also now displayed on the wall next to the reception desk. Thank you to Dr. Robert Seymour and Rick Starling for some long hours at the school to bring these projects to conclusion.

Director Search Update

Coleman Lew and Associates has been hired to help the search committee identify, screen and
77 Center Drive Facilityinterview candidates for Director. Coleman Lew has extensive retained executive search experience in the field of education and many key contacts within this sector.

The search for a
Director is not a simple application and interview process. While we will use some traditional methods (such as posting the position on our website and other educational websites), the search committee and Coleman Lew will proactively source and recruit top professionals in the gifted and education community.

In the coming weeks, you will receive an invitation to provide your input on this most important search via an online survey, and we hope you will participate. For more information on Coleman Lew, please visit their website at www.colemanlew.com

Scholars' Academy Can Win Clorox Grant If Everyone Votes

In the race for the $50,000 Power A Bright FuturePower A Bright Future logo 3 Grant, Scholar's Academy is now:

  • the leading school in Charlotte!
  • 4th in North Carolina
  • 12th in the Create category ($25,000 grant)
  • 50th overall out of 1590 schools nationwide ($50,000 grant)

...but the leading pack of about 10 schools (4 of which are in our Create category) is beginning to pull away.

Question: If one person votes for Scholars' Academy twice every day (once online and once via text), and convinces just one friend or family member to vote twice everyday, and each new voter does the same (votes twice, asks just one new person to vote twice everyday) and so on...how many votes per week would be added in to Scholars' total in the Clorox campaign?

Answer: 128. Okay, you might think, how much would that really help?

Here's how: If our entire school community (parents, teachers, staff, students 13+ years old) followed that pattern, we could get 300,000,000 votes within one month.

If each parent, teacher, staff member, and 13-year-old student just voted twice each day, that would equal about 1500 votes PER DAY! We would already be in first place overall. To date, we have less than that over the course of an entire WEEK.

It is entirely possible for Scholars' Academy to WIN THIS GRANT ($50,000!) but only if we have an IMMEDIATE surge in votes.  Every member of our community needs to vote TWICE, vote EVERY DAY, and get new voters. Together, we CAN do this!

Please click this link to vote online for Metrolina Regional Scholars' Academy. If you are having trouble registering, enter your phone number with NO DASHES.

Don't forget to text too: clorox7790 to 44144

You can vote once online AND once via text each day.
