Field Day - Information From Coach Z
A very exciting time of the year is rapidly approaching... FIELD DAY! This year's field days will take place at Park Road Park located at 6220 Park Road. Coming from school, you would make a left onto Tyvola and a right onto Park Road. On Park Road, make your first right into Park Road Park and the field will be right in front of you. We will be using softball field #4 (by the pond and picnic bench areas). Upper level (grades 5-8) field day will take place on Monday, June 6th from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. Lower level (grades K-4) field day will take place on Tuesday, June 7th from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. We are in need of parent volunteers from all classes to help run our stations that the children will rotate through. Please contact your room parent if you are interested in volunteering for the morning. All parent volunteers need to report to field at 8:00 a.m. for directions on the stations.
All students need to be dropped off at Park Road at 8:15 a.m. Please do not take your child to the school first. Students will meet their teachers at the softball field at 8:15. For students that attend before care, we will provide transportation to get them to the park. All students will need to bring a bag lunch. We will provide transportation to get the children back to school following field day where they will finish the school day. You can pick up your child like normal at dismissal time. All students will need to dress comfortably for participation and the heat, please apply sunblock before coming to field day, hats are encouraged, and all students MUST wear sneakers to reduce the risk of injury and for better performance. If you should have any questions regarding field days, please do not hesitate to contact Noelle Zagorski at nzagorski@scholarsacademy.org.

Book Sale This Week, Library Reminder
Book Sale - Be There!
Don't forget the PTO sponsored Barnes and Noble Book Sale on Thursday, May 26 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.at the Morrison Store (4020 Sharon Rd). Reminders will go out via email this week. If your child is interested in participating in the poetry reading from 5:00 to 6:00 on the night of the book sale, please email your child's teacher. Poems must be the original work of the student and any Scholars' Academy student/alumnus is welcome to participate. Library Books - Please Return!
If you have "borrowed" a book from the Scholars' Academy library, now is the time to return it. We are nearing the end of our cataloging project and need all of our books back in the Media Center for labeling and filing. Please place any books in the donation boxes by the entrance to the Media Center. It is tempting, but PLEASE do not take any books off the shelves during the last few weeks of school. We need the books physically in the library so that we can finish our cataloging and filing. |
Scholars' To Be Model Green School
The Scholars' Academy will be developing a new program this summer to be implemented in the fall. The USGBC Green Schools committee here in Charlotte has a goal to "Adopt a School" this year. They have agreed to use our school to help develop a sustainable road map on how to be more environmentally friendly. This will be an e-published document that other schools can then use to help themselves start the greening process!

What is the Adopt-a-School program? It's an opportunity to create a plan of steps, programs, and protocols for living sustainable WITHIN the school and get volunteers from the USGBC to help implement and hopefully fund the projects. We have gone through the process to work on getting our building LEED certified, but how we teach the kids about being sustainable and living sustainable on a daily basis in the school (and at home) will allow the kids to take this with them into the community. PROGRAMS LIKE: no waste lunches, recycling + reuse + repurpose, composting, gardens for the kids to grow food for homeless, green cleaning, monitoring energy use, Science projects , Creative Reuse projects by kids ( $500 weekly grants available), Earth club, and more. The program is only limited to our imagination, but having a cohesive PLAN in place will allow us to not only move forward as a group, but foster opportunities for kids and parents to really get involved.
If you are interested in participating in the core team to develop the program or you just want to volunteer, please contact Shana Paschal at SPaschal@littleonline.com. |
