NIGHT OF THE ARTS
Are you hearing more practicing from your 4th grade recorder player, or your 7th grader who is learning the trombone, or perhaps you hear the hum of the alto line from a chorus selection? You might notice some dance steps you haven't seen before - or maybe the repetition of some Chinese or Spanish phrases. Join us Friday, April 8 in Dana Auditorium on the Queens University campus for our final curricular showcase of the year. Night of the Arts is a long standing school tradition which showcases our students and their special achievements from our enrichment classes. This special evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Scholars' Academy Art Gallery show and sale, followed by performances which begin at 6:30 p.m. See you there! AND THE AWARD GOES TO...
From the North Carolina Poetry Society Student Competition: Sophia Hurr - First Place, Joan Scott Memorial Environmental Poetry Award and Honorable Mention Mary Chilton Award Sidney Metcalf - Second Place, Joan Scott Environmental Poetry Award and Honorable Mention Mary Chilton Award Mary Steele - Honorable Mention, Joan Scott Environmental Poetry Award Kyle Mitchell - Honorable Mention, Joan Scott Environmental Poetry Award

Rachel is a former student and a freshman at Porter Ridge High School in Union County. Congratulations to our award winning writers! SPECIAL NOTES
A special thank you to Matt Leonard and his dad for helping with the plantings in front of the school last fall. Looks like we will have some strawberries in a couple of weeks. A special note about early pick-up: We have had a noticeable increase in the number of parents who "call ahead" for student pick-up. Please be aware that as soon as you call we will get your student from the classroom. We are unable to honor requests such as "I will be at the school in 25 minutes to pick up Sandra." We will bring students from the classroom as soon as we are notified. If you wish to maximize student time in the classroom, please wait until you arrive at school to have us bring students to the reception area for early dismissal.
For the earth,
Marie Peine, Ph.D., Director

Help Needed With Media Center Murals
We are in need of a volunteer with a pickup or other large vehicle to help with the delivery of some wooden cut-outs that will go on the ends of the bookshelves in the Media Center. The cut-outs are currently at the school and need to be delivered to the home of a parent who lives very near the location of the old school. The cut-outs are approximately 8 feet by 2 feet and will be painted with murals and then delivered back to the school for installation. If you can help with this job, please contact Katherine Pair (kbpair@yahoo.com). These murals will make such an exciting addition to our Media Center! |

All Hands On Deck
Remember feeling lost in a sea of questions once you decided to enroll your child at Scholars'? Ambassadors are needed to help new families get their sea legs and successfully navigate to the first day of school and beyond. Contact Maura O'Sullivan (mauraosullivan@me.com) if you are willing to assist a new family as they transition to Scholars'. Successful relationships from previous years have carried into the school year with the newer family taking on roles with the PTO, Development Committee and other areas. Since we are primarily a volunteer-driven enterprise, making new families feel welcome and harnessing their energy and enthusiasm is key to our continued progress.
