Safety

Please be aware that if you exit the school drive via the parking lot on the north side of the school, you MUST turn right out of the school parking lot. The traffic sign there clearly indicates a right turn. The school office received a call on Friday from the Spectrum Properties office (manages the office park) that "upwards of 20 drivers" have been observed turning left directly onto the two lane road that has a cul-de-sac/drive around circle at the end of Seventy-seven Center Drive. Even if you think no one is watching - which someone obviously is - please obey the posted traffic signs in the office park and turn right out of the school parking lot at the north entrance/exit of our parking lot.

Success

The winner of the 2011 Scholars' Academy Spelling Bee is Alison Roeth. She will represent the school at the regional charter school spelling bee to be held at the Lincoln Cultural Center. Our second place speller was Sidney Metcalf.

Science Fair

Our 10th annual science fair will be Monday, January 24. Judging of student projects will be all day on that Monday. Parent/community viewing of projects will be from 6:00 - 7:00pm on Monday evening. For Monday afternoon dismissal on January 24, parents are asked to enter through the main student entrance rather than the gym.

Rescheduled

The Scholars' Academy Geography Bee, originally planned for what was a snow day, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 19. The final round will be held in Mr. Yodice's classroom beginning at 8:45 a.m.

Fun Math Web Site

Villainy, Inc.: Thwarting World Supremacy through Mathematics is a site devoted to helping middle grade students build and use problem-solving skills to solve unique and complex mathematical problems. Here, they become undercover agents working to thwart the evil Dr. Wick and his half-baked and often-zany schemes to take over the world.

The site contains two Missions. Drawing on the Maryland State Curriculum indicators and objectives, each Mission explores a variety of topics in mathematics, including algebra and geometry. During their involvement in a Mission, students have to draw on a wide assortment of math skills to find an answer, thinking critically and trying various methods to come up with a logical answer.
