Community
Webster defines community (a noun) as a unified body of individuals; an interacting population of various kinds of individuals in a common location. And that is what we were at the fun-filled Fall Social sponsored by the PTO on Friday afternoon. With the inflatables, the dunk tank, the cotton candy and snow cones, and the Book Fair, you really would have had to work at it not to have a good time. As we ease into the rhythym of the school year - conferences, report cards, holidays, celebratory events - it is reassuring to see us together as a community and enjoying who we are and what we have. Admissions An important part of our school year is approaching - the annual admissions open houses. We will hold two events - one on Saturday, November 6, and another on Saturday, December 4. Both sessions begin at 2:30 p.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m. We encourage our families to invite prospective parents to visit with us about the school. If you have any questions about admissions or know others who have questions, please contact Ms. Cuneo or me or leave a message at extension 296 and we will return the calls. Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences Conferences will be held Thursday, October 21 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Friday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There is no school for students on those days. If you wish to have a conference with any of our enrichment teachers, they will be available during the hours for conferences. Please contact them by phone or email to arrange a time.
Books For Our School
We have received a large shipment of books as part of our affiliation with the Confucius Institute. We are temporarily storing the books on some of the open shelves in the media room. Unfortunately, some of the books have been borrowed by students/parents using the room. Please return the books as they will be needed by students for Chinese classes. These books are not available for general use at this time

Celebrating Fall At 77 Center Drive
It doesn't get much better than teachers in the dunk tank, games, music, face painting, snow cones, and the ice cream truck on a perfect fall afternoon. Even Sir Purr from the Carolina Panthers joined in on the fun greeting families and pulling Ms. Hu's name for the weekly campaign drawing. Ms. Hu is the lucky recipient of two Panthers tickets.
Thanks to the PTO and especially to Dawn Lombard for organizing this event.

Eagle Fun'd' Day
The second annual Eagle Fun'd' Day (formerly Scholars' Academy Fun'd' Run) is quickly approaching! This year our students will have a special day to help raise money for the PTO. During the week of October 25th, PE class will be dedicated to several fun activities that will earn the children points. Students will participate in basketball-shooting, jump-roping, bean bag toss, target toss, and volleying, earning a point for each successful basket, jump, toss, and volley. Pledge forms will be sent home with each child. Friends and family may pledge a certain amount per point or give a flat amount. Points will be tallied after all classes have completed the events and parents will be informed of the amounts due. Please return completed pledge forms by October 22. Also, please consider volunteering for the Fun'd' Day for your child's class or coming to the event to cheer on the kids. Room parents will send out the schedule and call for volunteers. Last year the Fun Run was a great success and the children had a fantastic time! Special thanks to Noelle Zagorski for coming up with these fabulous activities! If you have any questions, please contact Diana Huneycutt at diana@percheron.com. |

Books for Punta Banco Update
Last year, Ms. Lloyd's class and our school collected books and money for the Children's Library of Punta Banco in a remote area of Costa Rica. They sent our school some pictures and a thank you letter which in part said, "We dream to one day meet you on Skype. We have no way to do this at this time, but one day we will. May your kindness return to you 100 times. Good luck in your new school year! The Children's Library of Punta Banco" Thank you again to all that have helped and continue to help with this effort! |

Scholar Finishes Triathlon
Ceyda Guley (5th, Hinkelman) competed and finished her first Sprint triathlon on September 26. She completed the Ramblin' Rose Women's Only Triathlon and she was one of only two 10-year-olds to compete! Congratulations, Ceyda!
Alumna Gives Back
Rachel Carroll (Scholars' Academy class of 2010) would again like to thank all of the people who donated money to her recent fundraising effort for her trip to China this past July. Rachel had a wonderful trip, made many new friends, and was able to experience firsthand the sights and culture of China. She was able to use the Chinese she had learned at Scholars' Academy over the previous five years (grades 4-8). As she promised, when she returned from China, she volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. Rachel worked 14 days and 40 hours. Also, she raised $280 more than she needed to pay for the trip, added $220 of her own money to that, and made a $500 donation to Habitat for Humanity. She is so grateful to everyone who helped her!
