Community Service By The Numbers
This year Scholars' Academy donated 272 pairs of shoes to Souls 4 Souls, conducted 2 stream clean ups for Adopt-A-Stream, donated 15 pairs of mittens, 9 scarves and 8 hats to the Charlotte Emergency Shelter, gave 168 coats to Steve's Coats for Kids which benefited Crisis Assistance Ministry, made 282 Valentines for Levine's Children's Hospital, and donated a whopping 2,321 food items to Loaves and Fishes. Collectively, our school made a difference 3,077 times. I thank you for your support of these projects. More importantly, I thank you for your generosity to those less fortunate then ourselves. Sincerely, Mary Tayal

Something To Do This Summer
It is that time of year again! Please remember to save your box tops over the summer and even ask your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same. It is amazing how those little pieces of paper worth 10 cents each add up. If you have questions please feel free to email me at kszentesi.thomas@yahoo.com.
Thanks so much and have a great summer, Kim Szentezi-Thomas |

T-A-L-E-N-T-E-D!!!
The Scholars' Academy talent show was held on Friday, June 4, 2010 in the gymnasium preceded by a brief PTO meeting during which the PTO officers for 2010-2011 were presented. There were a variety of unusual and entertaining acts this year including, but not limited to: rocking violins, Irish dancing, jump roping, tae kwon do, original compositions, Indian dancing and a mathematical ballad. We even had some teachers get in on the act! Great job Ms. Hinkelman, Ms. Moschel and Ms. Metcalf! All in all, a festive time was had by those who attended as well as those who performed.
Thank you to Jenna Reynolds and Rachel Carroll for emceeing as well as the entire student council for their contributions. We would like to thank Trent Pitts for his smooth handling of all the audiovisual equipment and to Susan Scherer for sharing her photographs. |

Save Our Libraries
A Call to Action
The Mecklenburg County Manager recommends a 45.5% reduction in funding for libraries. This means that 16 library branches will close indefinitely and that we will have a reduction in hours and loss of services such as cuts to youth, teen and adult programming.
