thanksThank you to NOTA volunteers!

We were happy to hear many of our school's families enjoyed the Night of the Arts 2009 and we are proud to say that it was a great group effort and we could not have done it without your sincere support. Parents went out of their way re-scheduling their personal appointments and taking time off from work to help with set-up, being on-call on the morning of the event, running out to buy a pack of batteries in the middle of the program and doing so many things
both big and small that contribute to success of such a grand event. Many volunteers worked more than one job and way more than one shift! We are humbled by your generosity.

Last weekend I was very fortunate to experience the extraordinary companion Scholars' Academy
events dedicated to the arts and the future of the school physical plant. In both cases it was an amazing demonstration of why it takes a village to achieve ambitious goals. On Friday evening the Scholars' Academy community was able to showcase a wide range of arts activities that are so essential to providing a holistic educational experience. Science and math without cultural study/foreign languages and personal expression through the arts would be lacking in cultural context - a less than holistic educational experience.

Establishing a permanent home for this always evolving institution was showcased on Saturday. At both events, the opening - a chorus at the arts event and a documentary about educating highly gifted children at the new site event - showcased teamwork. The fundraising campaign highlighted creativity in expressing the key attributes of the school mission in the context of the structural design, flexibility in functional multi-purposes, and an openness of space and visual stimulation. In each case, the staff and parent efforts working together were extraordinary. I feel very confident that this robust community will certainly continue to achieve great things to succeed in their evolving ambitious goals. Keep on keepin' on and we'll get there before we know it.

The Scholars' Academy is pleased to announce that our production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical classic, THE KING AND I, will take place on Thursday evening,  May 7, 2009 at 7:00pm in the school gym.

For the past month and a half, 45 students have devoted time to bringing to life this story of what happens when East meets West. The show includes such iconic numbers as "Getting to Know You", "Whistle a Happy Tune", and "Something Wonderful".

Tickets are $5.00 each and must be ordered in advance. Order forms are available outside Ms. Hinkelman's room.

In the last issue, we asked "What do you like to do outside of school?" Here's what you said:

"Me & my friend's family went to Costa Rica for this spring break.  Some of the exciting adventures that we did were horse back riding, ziplining, snorkeling, jungle river cruise, saw volcano Irazu and Arenal volcano, which is an active volcano.  We went to the beach and also saw lots of animals like dolphins, crocodiles, howler monkeys, bats, birds and more...It was an amazing trip!!!"

Rahul Ramani (Ms. Schneider)

We'd LOVE to hear more! The TIPS Topic for our next issue is "What were you up to during spring break?" Please tell us by sending your submission to mrscholarsacademy@gmail.com by April 24th. We will include your responses in the April 27th issue.

Look forward to hearing from you!
