Dr. Peine

Dr. Peine's Pen -
A Special Note: As you read in News About Our School, you will note a significant gift that is being given to the school. I would like to provide a very special Thank You to Bob and Diane Seymour, grandparents of Robert Starling (Lloyd) for their very generous gift of playground equipment. The equipment will be available for use by our students in grades K-4 on the small playground at the modular building. The availability of quality playground equipment will be a first for our children.  Thank you so much for this great addition to our school campus.

A Special THANK YOU -
Michael McNamara of Greer and Walker, LLP. Mike assisted us with the Admissions Lottery on Tuesday, February 24.  He provided his expertise as  monitor of the proceedings and non-school observer.
 - Brian Huneycutt, Susan Hoppe, Dr. Katharine Coykendall, Mary Anne Hitt and Dr. John Peine who served as the judges of the Eighth Annual Scholars' Academy Science Fair. The projects they named as winners have already won more awards at the next level of science fairs.  The winners are listed in another section of the newsletter.

Trivia-thon Pledges Due

Thanks to everyone for supporting our Scholars' Academy Trivia-thon.  I think the students had fun with it.  Pledge forms have been sent home with all students, showing their score on the quiz and the amount of pledge money to be collected.  We will gratefully accept donations at any time; however, to be eligible for the cash prizes for top school-wide fundraisers ($50 for first place, $30 for second and $20 for third), money must be turned in to the PTO hamper in your child's classroom by no later than Monday,  March 9.  We will announce the winners after that date.  An ice cream party has been scheduled during lunch on Monday March 2 - about the time you receive this newsletter- to recognize the top scorers in each class. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders' quizzes were returned to them.  3rd through 8th graders received only their answer sheets.  To see copies of the questions and correct answers for these classes, look under the "What's New" section of the school website.

Many parent volunteers helped with this effort, but I want to thank in particular those dedicated parents who wrote the quizzes and / or stayed after the event to score them:  Melissa Brown, Jigisha Thakker, Julie and Bill Dibella, Suzanne Huffman, Beth Gage, Mary Tayal and Susan Scherer.

NewPlaygroundTHANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

It was truly a moving experience working with such wonderful people for our children and our school. Without their dedicated help and tireless efforts, this playground would not have been installed.  Every hand contributed.  We are continually amazed by the generosity of others.  Now, if we can just get the snow to come, melt and then the sun to shine, we'll be in business.....

Our thanks to everyone....especially:

7th Graders Conduct Mock Trial

As part of their study of the U.S Legal System, our 7th graders recently conducted a mock criminal trial. They played the roles of attorneys, witnessesand defendants.  The 8th grade served as the jury, and many of the other classes came in to observe parts of the proceedings.  Ms. Moschel, a 2nd grade teacher who began her career as a lawyer, guided students through the mock trial process andserved as the judge.  Meanwhile, upper level social studies teacher Mr. Yodice taught 2nd graders about ancient China.  The verdict:  a valuable learning experience for all involved.

Thanks to everyone who is supporting our school through this program.  To date, we have earned almost $600 this school year.  If you still have not linked, our school's number is 4075.

Thank you so much!
