Dr. Peine's Pen -
Special Events and Other Information.
Scholars' Academy Science Fair Our eighth annual science fair is Monday, February 16. Doing science is a fundamental principle of our science program. Students in grades 5 - 8 have been conducting original investigations since September to test their ideas about a variety of topics in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics/engineering, computers/game theory, household science, environmental science/alternative energy, behavioral.social science, and health sciences. For the second year, there will be some team projects at the fair. Judging of the projects will be conducted during the school day on Monday. Parents are invited to visit the school on Monday evening from 6:00-7:30pm.
Intent to Re-Enroll Forms Each year we ask parents to indicate their intention to have students return to the school by completing an Intent to Re-Enroll Form. We use this information as we begin to budget for the 2009-2010 school year. The numbers are also important as we approach the annual admissions lottery. The forms are located under the Documents Tab on the school website, www.scholarsacademy.org. Please download the form and return it to the school office by Friday, February 20.
The calendar of school events and field trips has been updated and can be found under the Calendar tab on the website. For the earth, Marie E. Trivia-thon Pledge Forms
Please Send in Trivia-thon Pledge Forms. The Scholars' Academy Trivia-thon will take place this Thursday, February 19, during the Teacher / Staff Appreciation lunch. While teachers and staff enjoy an off-site luncheon, parent volunteers will supervise the classrooms and conduct the Trivia-thon. Our trivia question writers have been hard at work coming up with fun, challenging questions for this event. (Unlike a spelling bee, students will write the answers to the questions, and no one will be eliminated.) Prizes: Top scorers in each class will be rewarded with an ice cream party, and there will be cash awards for the top three school-wide fundraisers (based on money collected.) Top school-wide fundraiser award: $50; Second highest: $30; Third highest: $20. All students should have brought home a yellow pledge form. If you need a form, please contact me and I can e-mail you one. It is not too late to support the PTO in this major fundraiser of the year. Please have students place completed pledge forms in the PTO hampers in the classrooms. Thank you for your support! If you have questions, please contact:
Debbie Steele, PTO Fundraising Chair
704-364-9304 PS: PTO funds are used for supplemental school equipment, teacher classroom funds, extracurricular programs, social and curricular events and teacher / staff support.
