Thank you to our furniture assembly and clean-up crew who worked at the school in August: The Dibella family, the McPherson family, the Bernard family, the Potharaju family, the Roeth family, the Dansby family, the Huffman family, the Ramani family and my sincere thanks and apologies to any I have forgotten.
For parents using before and aftercare: Access to the before and aftercare room will be through the door that we used last year. When you drop your child off, please pull up to the mailbox that we are able to see your car. Knock on the classroom door, and the teacher will admit you to the room. The office door will locked starting Tuesday, September 2. We request that parents who pick up after 5:30 not park at the sidewalk entrance. We would like to park the bus there in the evenings when it returns from the route.
ANTS!!! a status report My theory is that they are here looking for uncles, but I have no data to back that up. Eating in the classrooms will present ant problems for us for most of the year. We had the exterminator here twice last week. He will be treating the outside areas for the fire ants over the holiday. We will keep up with this.
For the earth,

Getting the Most from Harris-Teeter's Linking Program Last school year, Scholars' Academy PTO raised over $800 through Harris-Teeter's Together in Education program, with just over 100 participants. We hope to exceed that amount this year. Hopefully you have all linked your VIC card to our school, number 4075. We can maximize our earnings by requesting other people to link to our school as well. Below is a paragraph I e-mailed to some local friends and family. Feel free to cut and paste the text if you'd like to use it. I have a favor to ask. Most of you have probably seen Harris-Teeter's VIC card Together in Education program, where you can "link" your card to the school of your choice, and H.T. will donate a percentage of the value of your purchases to that school. If you have not already linked to a school, would you consider supporting my kids' school, Metrolina Regional Scholars' Academy, Code # 4075? You can ask a cashier to link your card at checkout, or do it online at http://www.harristeeter.com/community/together_in_education/link_to_your_school.aspx. You only need to request this link once, and it will remain active for the whole school year. Thank you all for your support, Debbie Steele, PTO Fundraising Chair dbsteele@bluelinecomputer.com 704-364-9304

Dear Scholars' Academy families, Once again, welcome back or if you're new to the school, welcome aboard! As we begin to settle in to the new school year I wanted to take a moment to let you know what the PTO has been up to thus far and what's coming up in the near future. In preparation for school starting, many parents were on hand assembling furniture, moving boxes, sweeping floors and tidying the playground area. The PTO was also able to do the following to get us off to a good start:
Sponsored the kick-off teacher workday breakfast and lunch
Sponsored the parent session with Dr. Delisle
Gave each homeroom teacher $200 in classroom start-up funds
Purchased a TV/DVD player for our new 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Muse
Purchased other needed items such as DVD players, CD player, classroom size maps and two 8' recycled plastic picnic tables (will arrive in 3-4 weeks)
Citipass fundraiser on now till September 12th Special thanks goes out to the parents clad in the orange vests who helped navigate the craziness and confusion that comes with the first couple of weeks of pick up. Thanks for showing courtesy and patience during this busy time of the day! Please watch your e-mail for more up-to-date information on pick up/parking procedures coming soon. To view the current designated parking areas and carpool line, please click on the link below: http://metrolina.nc.schoolwebpages.com/education/components/whatsnew/default.php?sectiondetailid=1520
Also, watch for details in the coming weeks about the School Fall Social scheduled for Friday, October 10th from 4-7pm. Fun will be had by all!! As a charter school, we rely heavily on parent participation and are grateful to all those who do the multitude of tasks that help make the school a safe, warm and welcoming place to be. For more information, please feel free to contact those listed in the PTO directory by clicking the link below:
Thanks for a great start to the year! Warmest regards, Toni Hemming PTO President
